The hostel is located in a cozy and silent area just 3 minutes walk from Metro Line 1 and just 3 stops from the Forbidden City. It was a little difficuilt to find the Hostel but the locals helped me after showing them the address.||My first impression after walking inside the hostel was very positive. I was warmly greeted with a sincere smile. The decoration and the smell of the lobby reminded me of authenticity and originality. ||The receptionist checked me in very fast and professionally. A keycard aswell as a padlock has been given to me (+ for that service orientation!) and she escorted me to the room. It has been carefully showed how to use the keycard as well as the main amenities in the room has been explained.||The bed was very comfortable and linery has been provided. Very good A/C in the rooms aswell as in other Hostel areas. For addictional price I could buy shampoo, shower gel as well as breakfast, which I had on the day of departure - the original Beijing Breakfast, very tasty. Tours to the Great Wall have been also provided but, becausd of organisational reasons, you need to book a tour one until 8pm the day before.||Special thanks go to the receptionists working in the lateshift on the 18th of July 2019 who showed their initerest and guest care and who helped me to unblock my cellphone. They weren't any IT experts but they still did their best and they succeded||||The Nightshift doesn't speak english at all but if you arrive after 10pm, you will be escorted directly to your room and you will be able to complete the check-in during daylight. All other receptionists speak very good english.||Be aware that you'll be asked for 100 Yuan Deposit for incidentals. This is very common in China||A suggestion from me: maybe there should be provied an English "HOSTEL" sign along the road? It wasn't that easy to...
Read moreWe booked the private room and it was good though. We're impressed because even though this is a hostel, they would change the towels, empty the trash and top up 2 bottled water everyday. Location is great as it is nearest to exit G or D(slightly further) of Dongdan train station. However, the exits nearer to the hostel had no lift, elevators or esclators so it is not elderly friendly or good if u have big luggages. The accessible exits are A & F but they are across the road and you need to climb the overhead bridge, no lifts as well. If u are travelling for the first time, it will be difficult to find, but look for this tall warm lighted building (at night) with this yellow icon and walk towards it. U will need to walk towards a car barrier and then make a left turn and walk straight through the alley to locate the hostel. Once u get it, it is easily accessible. If u're taking a taxi / Didi via alipay app, u can either drop pinn or type in: 北京北平青年旅社(八宝楼胡同店). Take note that the car is unable to drive in all the way due to the security barrier. So u need to drop outside of the barrier and walk abt 40m in.I stayed here before 6 yrs ago, this time the staff isnt as friendly. It is within expectation, but she didnt help to give any recommendations / suggestions on where to get some dinner when we arrived at about 8pm. But its ok. The cleaner is very friendly. And the air-conditioner works as a warmer in winter. The default warmer only works in the morng/afternoon but the room is still warm enough during winter. Plenty of hot water too. Would recommend this place if u are on a budget but want abit of...
Read moreI stayed a second night at this hostel because my first night staying here was a pleasant experience. In the morning, instead of rushing off to the tourist attraction on the city, I decided to explore the youth hostel dining space and browse their books. My eyes fell on a 2016 edition of Lonely Planet's guidebook to China (with the cover torn off, albeit) and another book on interior decoration based on Hindu Vedic philosophy. For several hours until noon, I spent some happy hours enjoying the space and quietness, reading a book, chatting and sharing breakfast with my fellow bunk mate. That I was enamored by the ambience is an understatement. Rarely do I like staying so much time at a hotel or hostel. More hoteliers should get on the idea that hotels aren't merely bed providers for the night, but can also be a place to mingle for travelers. This place won me over with its peaceful and pleasantly quiet surrounding. Next to the dining hall is their patio, a sizeable area decked with chairs and a lovely plant that is ripe for blooming during this season. I recomment this hostel for its cleanliness, comfortable sleeping space, peaceful ambience, and proximity to two subway stations. The front desk staff is the typical non-plus young woman who merely does her job. The elderly cleaner staff are more congenial. Alas, none of the staff speaks English so a translator is needed to converse for international travelers. They don't serve meals but food delivery can be conveniently ordered through * or other food...
