Location: Very central. Close to Walking Street. Never too far from nearby shopping and eateries. However, this central location does mean that the traffic outside the hotel is chaotic and during peak hours, do expect lots of traffic jam getting in and out of the hotel.
Room: Average with the bare necessities, cleanliness and maintenance. No frills. The first room I was given was quite horrendous. It was at the back wing of the hotel with window facing the local slum and old houses demolition. The room was at the end of the corridor and upon nightfall, somehow the light along the corridor outside the room was really dim and gloomy. The room door does not shut properly without pushing or pulling the door very very hard. Somehow that door has slanted within the door frame and the scratch marks on the edge of the door is evident that this issue has been around for a long time and being ignored to resolve. When I first entered that room, the air-con ventilation grille overhead at the doorway was opened and it was not a pretty sight to look up the air-con vent in the ceiling. Needless to say, I bolted out quickly out of this creepy room and asked for a change of room to a more central location nearer the elevator.
Internet. Do note that there is NO wireless wifi inside the room. Can't imagine this could still happen in this international hotel in the 21st century.
Club Lounge. Right now, I'm a Gold Priority Club member. I do not have free access to the club lounge. I'm told to pay for it if I were to use the lounge.
Fitness Center. The gym in this hotel is in the 2nd level of the basement; and obviously there is no view to look outside during your workout. There are two treadmills and looking at the condition, I could tell that almost all the equipment (less the free weights) are very old and very used. (either that these may be used equipment when they first set up the gym that I was told underwent a recent renovation). When I stepped on the treadmill, from the stain along the railing, the conveyor belt and electronic panel, I could guess that the equipment was not wiped clean by the attendants. Yuck. There is a "swimming pool" at this basement gym. This is not your regular shaped pool and let alone of any distance to do your lap swimming. At best, this looks more like a jucuzzi or large bath tub. Definitely gave me the sleazy image that is not expected from a renowned hotel brand.
Breakfast. My recent stay in this hotel (Aug 2013) is my return stay since my previous visit about a year or more ago. I questioned about the selection of the breakfast buffet spread and feedback about the lack of international fare. The spread then was very much meant for the local palate. At that time, the hotel manager responded to my feedback that this is something that is intentional and meant to skew towards mainly to the local. This, to me, was a very bad response even though it might seem sensible. Sadly, nothing has changed after one year. I stayed for two nights and I couldn't bring myself to the breakfast table on the second morning. I skipped that meal, altogether.
All in, unless I'm going from extra nights in my PriorityClub membership and there is no more room available in the other IHG hotel in this city ... I won't walk into this hotel again unless there are obvious...
Read moreThe hotel is conveniently located Zongfu Street, a short walk to the bustling Chunxi Road Pedestrian Shopping Street (and also to the Metro Station) and also IFS where airport shuttle buses stopped. (it only takes about 10mins walk) There are lots of eateries, departmental stores, shopping centers and even night markets nearby, very convenient!
The hotel is big tall and from afar, you can see it. There are 6 lifts.
We arrived at the hotel past 1am (as our plane landed at 1020pm at Tianfu Airport and after clearing immigration, we took the airport shuttle bus that took 75mins). We were welcomed by the friendly staff. And we were given vouchers for the welcome drink (which we could exchange anytime throughout our stay).
We requested rooms to be near to one another, and all the 3 rooms were indeed near to each other. Thanks to the staff. And the rooms were quite spacious although a little dated. We had windows view and had a good bird eye's view from our windows.
But beds were comfortable and we rested well. Only issue was that there was no main light for the room, as the lights were provided via desk lamps and so could be quite dark.
The toilet was ok, bright and provided all the necessary toiletries items. There's a bathtub but small and quite shallow and common to splash the water out when getting out of it.
Quite good TV channels (we could even watch CNA channel from our country) besides local and international ones. But it would be perfect if they can provide a list of TV channels to guide instead of letting us to scroll through one-by-one.
During our stay, there was a major beverage exhibition fair to be held there and there were lots of renovations and setup works to be done. Although it did cause some inconvenience for us to walkout/in, it was ok.
We also had the buffet breakfast at the restaurant (located at level 25, instead of level 2 due to the exhibition fair). It was heavenly. The spread was marvelous and great, so many things to eat, comprising of local, asian and western cuisines. Staff were friendly and efficient. This was also the place we got our welcome drink, which you can have softdrinks, fruit juices and even beer/wine!
And on the day of our checkout, staff was so friendly and gave us souvenirs to thank us for bearing with the "renovation and setting up" works that caused us inconveniences. They also happily help us safekept our luggages as our flight was late at night but checkout at 12pm. (and room service was well done too)
Overall, we were happy and enjoyed our stay here! We were initially a little skeptical of the stay here due to the several negative reviews earlier but were totally satisfied in...

Front desk staff are always helpful. 5 star. There are always a bell boy ready at main door but sometimes they are busy especially during peak time (11am - 2pm). Room to improve: They can actually said "Good morning" or "Good evening" to the guest. This will be create more cheerful and good feeling to the house guest. For 25th floor restaurant, Japanese is always my favorite food. Good staff especially the manager "Rebecca" and the team. Good job. For Grill room, food a bit expensive. There are actually a set lunch or dinner and they shd always introduce to customer first. Unless customer not like it. Not need worry customer order cheap food as customer for sure will have wise choice. right? For 2nd floor, breakfast I rated as 3.5/5. My opinion is, too many of Sichuan food style. Try create some western style breakfast other than bread, fruit, beans, sausage... etc... Dinner I will not go at all as the ventilation not good. Go once but after that entire cloth full of smell especially BBQ dinner. 25th launch and Ground floor tea/coffee corner, very cheerful staff and service me super well. They give me some home feeling. Thanks to the manage Mr Yang. For Wi-Fi, always screw up since last year I stay. Never improve on ground floor tea/coffee corner. Sometimes need to drink coffee/tea at ground floor while doing some business surfing, for sure not success. Room so far still ok. I would like to give Asst. Business Manager a special recognition Mr Vincent Deng. He provide a super excellent service and very informative. Very helpful and knowledgeable about this hotel and others. Always resolve my problems in 24 hours. Kudos!!!
I will check in to this hotel again on mid of Sept. See you...
