I would like to share my experience staying at Majestic Hotel last March 2015. This time, I decided to stay back at this hotel, for 6 nights' stay, after few of my previous stays (in the same hotel) turned out to be acceptable : Nothing great about this hotel except its location so don't expect too much. ||||If I were not mistaken, this was my 3rd stay in the past 5 years; although there was nothing great to be discussed, at least I had no major issues to complain about. Both of me and one of my colleagues arrived in the hotel around 1:45 am that evening after landed in a crowded airport in Guangzhou (Canton Int'l Airport). It took us more than an hour to get our taxi after spending in the queue after midnight.||||The journey itself took approx. an hour and by the time we arrived there, only one guy working in the front desk. Check-in took forever to finish but fortunately, it was slightly faster this time. Within 20 minutes of our arrival, we entered our rooms already. ||||Since I was staying by myself, they gave me a corner (small) room instead of giving me a standard size room. However, since it was already over 2:00 pm that morning, I decided not to bring up this issue during my stay. After all, this was a locally owned business hotel in China. ||||Based on my past experience staying at local business hotels, many times the front desk staffs were either pretending they did not understand our request in having another room or they simply did not understand it. Therefore, I decided not to call the front desk to discuss as it might took another half an hour, or longer, for me to talk to them and sometimes, they didn't fulfill our requests.||||The room itself was much smaller compare to the ones I had stayed before, maybe less than half of their standard (typical) rooms. Although it wasn't a fair practice but I didn't make any noise about this as I was too tired doing so. Plus, I didn't really stay in my hotel room during the day so I guessed it was okay for me.||||They served breakfast every morning and although it was not the best but it did serve the purpose. The hotel itself is conveniently located, across from Gang Ding MRT station. In the first few floors, there is a small shopping malls with restaurants if someone feels lazy to go outside the hotel.||||If someone is looking for a better hotel, and don't mind paying 15~25% extra, in the neighborhood then President Hotel across from Majestic Hotel will be a good option. I stayed in President Hotel few times in the past but they kept increasing their hotel rates in the past five years but without any doubt, they positioned themselves as a better hotel compare to...
Read moreJust back from 5 nights at the Majestic Hotel. I chose this hotel because it was one metro stop away from South China Normal University where I was visiting a student.||||If you are looking for a hotel where there is a lot of western influence, this is not it! I did not see another western person during my time there. However if you want to experience a more authentic chinese hotel - this could work ok.||||My room was on floor 28. It was clean but a little tired. The bed was hard but sheets etc very clean. There was a kettle and fridge in the room. Complimentary water was left each morning. There was plenty of hot water and shower gel, shampoo etc.||||Bathrobes and slippers were also in the wardrobe.||||I had breakfast in the hotel. It was more suited to chinese taste but there was always toast, French toast and fruit so I did not go hungry.||||I found the reception staff friendly. Most had a smattering of English and one or two had quite good English. I was given a later check out and was able to leave my case at reception until ready to depart for the airport.||||The location of this hotel is very good. It is at Guanding metro stop. The hotel opens out into a shopping mall. I did not have any issues with noise.||||Wifi was free and worked well.||||There are lots of hotels in Guangzhou. THIs one did not cost a lot and if I were ever to return I would be happy to...
Read moreThe Majestic hotel is a perfectly nice four-star tourist hotel at the northeast end of Guangzhou's major shopping mall street. The street is lined with large shopping mall after large shopping mall. It may not be quaint, but it is very convenient.||||The relatively small shopping mall in which the Majestic is located is right on top of the Gangding subway / metro station. The station is on a spur of Line 3, which is also the line to the airport. Unfortunately the trip to the airport requires a change of trains, but the cross-platform transfer is very easy.||||The free in-room wireless is fast and reliable, subject to the usual problem that it is behind the national Chinese internet firewall.||||Overall, we had a perfectly acceptable experience at the Majestic. The biggest problem was the fast that although we had a (smell-free) non-smoking room our towels smelled so strongly of smoke that you could smell them as soon as you walked into the bathroom! Recommendation for management: outlaw smoking in the laundry. But if you're traveling on a budget in China and that is the biggest problem, you're doing pretty well.||||All things considered . . . the Majestic is good value for the price and a decent...
