Allow me to be completely blunt about my stay. The convenience of location and accessibility to transportation is fantastic. Then it goes down hill from there. The ambiance is very dull and boring almost everything is awashed in shades of taupe. There are a few spots that draw your attention due to the intentionally placing of murals in vibrant colors, The staff of dressed as raggedy seamen in oversized denim pants and ill fitting shirts. They themselves have absolutely no character at all. Smiles are vacant from their blank expressionless faces. The desk staff make half hearted attempts at appearing courteous. Maybe because I'm a westerner.
I honestly expect better from this Brand..The room is very small no bathtub those are an upgrade. The TV is useless because everything is in Chinese. (beginning to sense a theme) The room is poorly lit. Light placement leaves many dark spots. The bathroom upon first glance appears to be immaculate. Then you notice the stains and dust accumulated of the glasses on the sink. There is of course signage asking if you plan to reuse the towel hang it on the hook. I was staying four days, so why not. I came back to my room and guess what. They replaced the towel that I hung up! Maybe their house cleaners should be properly trained.
I went down to breakfast (free buffet) the fist thing that you notice that its like walking into an icebox. They had a pretty good spread. But it was all cold. The ceiling fans are just a little over 8 feet above your head blasting the cold air onto your plate. So the fantasy of a hot meal is quickly diminished. I had to tell the staff how to make oatmeal because their oatmeal you could easily drink through a straw. So breakfast was doomed especially since they placed pre cooked waffles with the bread ugh!
I went back to my room and noticed that the door was open. Apparently the door doesn't fully close unless you pull it closed. Come to think of it.. The door was open when I woke up..I was very tired and didn't notice .. Of course I informed management I got the usual SOP response apologies and room change.. I asked for a bathtub after 30 minutes they claimed none available. So I ended up staying in my original room and making sure to pull the door closed. Instead they offered me free dinner buffet. I should have ate out lol
They buffet at dinner (and lunch) is was smaller than breakfast spread and offers no western dishes. Primarily chinese foods ( what a shocker)
I opted for some nice steamed rice and curry chicken since I'm no fan of fish heads and other such fish items. This time I was smart I carried some napkins and covered my food soon as I placed on my plate.. This was I'll have at least warm food. I bit into my rice and nearly chipped a tooth! How the hell does a Chinese person not know how to use a rice cooker?
This place needs a new executive chef very badly! I expected so much from an international hotel. This location seems to focus on Chinese travelers. They could care less about other travelers.
I'll never stay at this location again nor will I recommend this location to...
Read moreThe hotel ticks all the boxes for cleanliness, clean calming room design with very very comfortable beds. Location is expected if you picked as it's not near to citygate or Tung Chung MTR. But the hotel provides adequate half hourly to and fro shuttle to there. And an hourly shuttle to and fro the Airport. Opposite the hotel are some neighbour shops, with 3 eateries, 7 eleven, a laundromat, and some other shops. And in the hotel, there is also a shop alley where there are some shops, cafes and restaurants. Now this is where it gets annoying for me, cos the F&B outlets play live nightly music which is quite loud and goes on till 12am. Noise travels upwards and at 16th floor, it was still audible, i couldn't sleep or watch TV cos the noise was fighting with the TV volume. I informed the hotel and their manager and staff were so kind to offer me a room change to the top floor at the most corner room. The concierge assisted with the room move bringing my luggage which I appreciated. So very nice service from the hotel staff.
However some of the bus drivers were really unpleasant and some of the front office, and restaurant staff hardly ever wear a smile. They go thru their work with weariness and without any hospitality involved. I have stayed at the Ascott, Kerry, Sliveri, prior to this and the lack of friendliness made you feel unwelcomed and cold. Plus when I went to the reception to make payment for my spa treatment the trainee actually told me my credit card was declined, and her colleague told her to use the global payment machine and then the transaction went thru. I think you should check before telling your customer their card is declined, it's not very nice. On that note, the spa treatment room was really nice. You definitely feel very pampered for a really reasonable price. . Pls go try it out. The sauna, gym and pool are also very nice.
Some of things I hope the hotel could improve on. The staff friendliness, the noise though understandly not within the hotel control could perhaps negotiate with the mall and restaurants at T Bay as Four Points and Sheraton are the main tenants and without their guests, T Bay have no business being there.
A proper chair instead of a stool in the room, a shower cap, plastic bags for the dustbin would all be nice little...
Read moreTerrible experience at this hotel. We stayed here for one night only as we had an early morning flight the next day. Rooms were extremely small, the twin beds were really single beds. For reference, we already got "upgraded" to an ocean view deluxe room so I can't imagine how small the regular rooms are. We were constantly bumping into each other and there was no place to stand at all. I know hotels in Hong Kong are small as I was born here, and have visited many times after we moved overseas. The photos online showed rooms in a much more positive light.
Service was slow and virtually nonexistent. We had to ask a few times for water, and luggage assistance as we were travelling with seniors.
One thing that was strange was that the hotel informed us that no bottles of water would be given out starting just the day before our arrival and that we have to get water from the water fountain. This was fine with us as I understand the hotel wanted to be environmentally friendly. However, I ran into a flight attendant (non Chinese ) and she told me she just got a bottle from them . I wonder, after reading some of the reviews online , that if I had communicated with them in English ( I am more fluent in English than Cantonese/ Mandarin), would we be treated differently?
It is also strange that we stayed in other Marriott brands hotels on our trip - Ritz Carlton in Hong Kong and St. Regis , both Marriott branded and much higher categories than Four Points and we did have have to use the water fountain.
The room had a very strange muggy and mouldy smell as well and we could not sleep at all.
We will not be returning to this...
