Maison Du Mezze — Restaurant in Islands District

I really hate that I have to give a 2-star review to such a nice restaurant with great quality of food and nice waiting services. Then why would I rank it with 2 stars only? Cause the manager called “Hany”/“Henry” there made me and my friend both feel very uncomfortable. At first we thought he was being friendly like most of the manager/chef of a restaurant would do, chit chatting with customers. Not mentioning how he’s being weird in the conversation towards my female friend, we still answered and reacted to him at first as being a polite customer. Then, in the middle of our meal, he suddenly came over, and use the fork and spoon to move the a piece of the skewer from the mix grill to our sharing plates WITHOUT SAYING A THING/ ASKING US before he touches our food. And he just walked away afterwards. We found it quite rude to move customer’s food without asking, especially for the standard of such a nice restaurant, but we could still assumed him being a “nice host” by that time. After that, as he weirdness made us feel uncomfortable, we started to observe him if he is doing the same thing to other customers in the restaurant, so we could justify him for his rudeness as “just trying hard to be a nice host”. HOWEVER, we found that he NEVER did the same to the customers at other tables, not chitchatting nor proactively “help” customers to share the food. Lastly, when we asked for the bill, it was another staff going to handover the bill to us at first, but then, this manager suddenly came over AGAIN, took the bill from his staff and put it on our table with his hand holding tight to it, and asked specifically towards my female friend again in a not so polite way to leave google review for them. Why would I say not so polite? it was because of his facial expression (definitely not smiling) and the way he looked to my friend, and with both hands on the table, holding tight to the bill and leaned forward to my friend and said “Will you leave comment for me”. The whole tone and message we could get from his way of expressing is very close to FORCING us to leave comment for them before we could pay the bill, and he was not leaving until we give him an answer he wants. And again, we didn’t see him do the same thing to other customers. Therefore, the whole dining experience made us feel so disturbed by this manager. We can’t help thinking was it because we were the only 2 Asian girls in the restaurant (while the others were mostly families or couples) so he thought he is allowed to be “playful” with us? This is very disappointing, as the other waiting staff were awesome! And we didn’t think of leaving a review about him at first, unfortunately, as this manager was so desperately wanting a comment from us, I have to leave the review as I said I will. We were expecting us to return to the restaurant for the food before but now we wouldn’t, cause we do not wish to receive the same “hospitality” from this...

I was attracted by the 5-star reviews of this middle eastern restaurant, however after dining in last night, I started wondering if the reviews are genuinely true. Because at the end the manager Henry/Hanny made me utterly uncomfortable and awkward, I was not happy with the dining experience. At first he appeared to be friendly and funny, he chatted with me and my female friend, and when he learnt I live around this area he asked me to leave a review after dinner and told us his name, I was fine with it and liked the hospitality. But then we were interrupted few times awkwardly throughout the night. One of the times, when we are enjoying our mixed grill, he came over out of the blues and started playing with our food and putting them on our plates without our consent. He repeatedly asked me if I have already written a review “for him” before we finished our food and how many times I would come back, and when we wanted another dip sauce he kinda asked if we wanted one two or five dip sauces which I found it not funny anymore, as if we were greedy to even asked for one, and with the price tag there should not be a problem to ask for one. But I have decided to let it go, not letting it to spoil our Friday girl’s night. Until we asked for the bill, he came over again, and stopped me from looking at my bill, he asked me again if I have written a review again, and WOULD NOT LEAVE THE TABLE until I responded, his tone is very much like an interrogation and I certainly do not deserved to be treated as such. I found him rather impolite, forceful and inappropriate. The food is fine plus the other servers were lovely, but I am rather haunted by the experience and this is the first time I have ever treated as such in a restaurant (kinda feel like tourist spam that...
