Unfortunately it seems a years time can make quite a difference and I do not recommend a stay at this hotel. My partner and I had a nice stay one year ago- our experience was so memorable that we decided for the final stop on a family vacation to China we would bring the whole family one year later. Our group was a party of eight people- each staying for 5 nights in a total of 4 separate rooms.

We chose the Langham in Shanghai with the hopes that we would end our trip with an exceptional experience and we were let down from arrival. All of our rooms were on a very low level- we politely asked for higher floors and our receptionists curtly said nothing could be done.Although this was a mild disappointment , we quickly moved on as my family is amicable overall. Unfortunately that was just a preview of the rest of the lackluster experience. Upon arrival to my room I was immediately locked into the sliding door restroom- maintenance staff was sent quickly to fix the room but I was clearly frustrated and angry after the check in process already. We were then offered to move to a room on a higher floor which we accepted as we had plans to attend to quickly. While en route to our room I was already feeling somewhat guilty as it is not in my nature to be demanding or complain however by this time the rest of my family was letting me know that their rooms situations were even worse with broken equipment, brown marks on the walls and hanging wires ( see pictures attached). We arrived at our new room which was smaller- we were also given a bowl of fruit. No other consolation was offered - admittedly I did not for anything further because I did not see the utility of continuing to receive poor treatment and I am not a beggar. Finally, in the lobby/lounge area my family was repeatedly asked to sit in the corner or undesirable seats over the course of the 5 night stay. We eventually just ignored requests to move seats as we could see no reason to comply and no other ( caucasian) guests seemed to receive this treatment. Aside from all of the obvious reasons we were disappointed with our stay it would be clear to anyone that the overall facilities are outdated and in disarray. All staff within the restaurant, doormen and cleaning staff were kind and pleasant and in no way would I want my review to reflect on their perception. We will be returning for Shanghai for years to come but definitely not staying at this establishment ( or any other Langham hotels) and obviously I would not recommend it as a consideration for...

Aside from housekeeping doing an amazing job the entire front of house ie. Bell man and front desk reception ruined our perception of the Langham. Right when we arrive as the bellman was getting our luggage out of the trunk, he was cursing and complaining how heavy our suitcase was. This also happened again when we left. The front desk lady who checked us in refused to acknowledge there was any complimentary upgrade since I am a member. I asked in another way to make sure she understood what I was trying to say and she still denied until way later when she was clicking on her system and saw we were upgraded. Felt like she could’ve double checked first before shutting us down immediately. The chefs at breakfast buffet was complaining in open sight of the customer how they can’t believe it’s almost 10:30 (when the buffet ends) and customers are still eating here. Just found this so unprofessional as so many guests are right in front of you. Also the servers seating people just look like they hate their jobs and don’t want to be here, no smile or politeness in greeting guest. No help from front desk to help bring up package that was delivered and was told I have to go down and get it myself. Just odd for a 5 star hotel. As a member usually we are greeted with fruit platter that is prepared right when you first step into the hotel room. We didn’t get ours until a random worker was knocking at our door the 2nd day at 8-9pm. We were confused and he said someone forgot to bring it yesterday. We had a flight issue and thought guest relations or front desk can help us with communicating and contacting airline since our Chinese was not the best. The response was why don’t you call the airline yourself and no help at all. We wanted to double check the weight of our baggage and the scale in our room seems inaccurate. When we went to check out and ask the front desk for a scale they didn’t even attempt to see if they have one or can get one from the hotel room and just rejected us saying they don’t have. Felt like the whole experience of a five start hotel felt like a...

I had the pleasure of staying at The Langham, Shanghai 新天地 on March 26th, anticipating a comfortable and enjoyable experience. However, upon arriving at my assigned room, I was dismayed to discover that it had not been cleaned. This left me feeling disappointed and inconvenienced. The housekeeping staff on the floor immediately apologized for the oversight and assured me that they would notify the front desk. However, I was still dissatisfied with the situation and decided to proceed to the lobby to speak with a manager.Upon reaching the lobby, I was greeted by the warm and attentive Manager. After understanding the situation, The Lobby Manager did not attempt to deflect blame but instead offered his sincere apologies and promptly arranged for me to be transferred to a new room. To my further delight, The Manager personally escorted me to the new room and patiently introduced me to the hotel's facilities and services. In the newly assigned room, I was met with a sense of order and cleanliness. The room was tastefully decorated, well-equipped, and exuded a cozy ambiance. I was thoroughly impressed with the hotel's cleanliness standards and the attention to detail. While the initial hiccup with the uncleaned room was disappointing, the hotel's swift and courteous response transformed my overall experience into a positive one. The Manager genuine concern and proactive service made me feel truly valued as a guest, leaving a lasting positive impression of The...

The Langham Hotel in Shanghai has the advantage of a convenient location, situated close to the popular Xintiandi shopping district. This proximity offers guests easy access to a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, which is a definite plus for visitors looking to explore the heart of the city. However, the hotel’s ambiance upon arrival is a bit underwhelming. The lobby is somewhat dimly lit and smaller than expected, lacking the grandeur one might anticipate from a luxury hotel. This initial impression could benefit from a brighter, more welcoming design to set the tone for a five-star experience. The room itself offers an adequate view, though it may not be particularly memorable compared to other high-rise hotels in Shanghai. One concerning aspect of the room, however, is the bathroom floor, which can be surprisingly slippery, potentially posing a hazard to guests. Improving the floor’s grip or providing additional bath mats could enhance safety and comfort in the bathroom. Dining in the lobby lounge could also use some refinement. The food quality is average; for instance, the burger we ordered took almost 30 minutes to arrive, and the patty was quite bland, lacking the seasoning that would elevate it to a satisfying meal. Given the hotel’s reputation, there’s room for improvement in both the promptness and quality of the dining experience in the lounge area.
