If this place had told me they were going to refinish the entire kitchen and dining room while I was staying there, I wouldn’t have rented two rooms (including the “penthouse”) and had a business meeting there. They should’ve closed the hotel while they were stripping the surface of the counter and completely upending the entire first floor of the hotel. Workers wore face masks, the smell was horrific, and there was no food service (okay, they said they’d make me a cheese sandwich...give me a break; they were supposed to have a wine and appetizer hour!). And then they insultingly say that this is something normal they do every year, and I’m unreasonable to complain. One stays at a hotel to enjoy oneself, not to smell solvent. If you don’t want to experience their complete disregard for their guests, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Environmentally friendly hotel which was a former disused factory. Located within 30 mins walk of major tourist attractions smack in the middle of the former French concession. Good complimentary breakfast with main dish freshly made - must tries are the homemade yogurt and English muffin (homemade bun). Tree lined paths to visit the old houses of yore esp the Ba Jin (author of Family 家春秋) novelist home and Soong Ching Ling's (third wife of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and featured in the movie The Soong Dynasty) former home. Take the free tour organised by the Wukang Tourist Information Centre daily at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to learn more about these famous figures and other old houses in former French concession.

Excellent boutique hotel in a charming district, close to the Metro and the Jing'An Temple. Rooms are a decent size, with comfortable beds and stylish decor. The room setup was a bit odd, with the bed in the middle on a raised platform, and the sitting area and bathroom down a couple of steps, so it's not the best for people who are at risk for falls. Our room came with complimentary breakfast, which was really good. There's a small buffet of pastries, fruit, and salad, and you can order other dishes from the menu -- I had the congee and the breakfast muffin, both terrific. Good coffee, too! We'd definitely stay here again.

It breaks my heart to write this review but the pandemic period caused a lot of negative changes to many of my favorite places in the world, and sadly, this property has been significantly impacted. I used to stay in room 7 every other month for the 8 years before the pandemic. It was a hotel with beautiful design, spacious and the breakfast and long ago the happy hour service was fantastic. That is no longer true. Well, the same design and eco friendly aspects are the same, but the property is run down, there was paint peeling in my room which had mold and dust in abundance. The breakfast and all food service is owned by a separate organization and it is terrible. For a week I would come down as soon as breakfast was available and the staff never once asked me what I wanted let alone made eye contact. The offerings were very limited. My advice is not to pay for breakfast with your room. You can get a Western breakfast 300 feet away at Wagas, or go across the street and buy baozi and tea eggs for nothing. There are plenty of coffee shops around the hotel where you can actually taste the coffee, not like what is offered in the hotel. |I loved coming to URBN. I still do, even though it is a shadow of what...

This is a diamond in the raw. You can barely find this type of decoration with details that make it a very pleasant space to be at, the rooms are very big for what you are paying and the unique layout (exactly as shown in the pictures) is beautiful and comfortable, the experience is different than the typical hotel room. Building and rooms are always clean, no bad smells around. Yes, breakfast is a mess, but hey, the room includes the breakfast for the same price, I don’t understand why people complain about it since the location is so great that you can walk less than 500 meters and already can have breakfast in a different place for a whole month ! As the hotel has its years already, shower pressure is not the best, the air conditioning system is already good for a nice upgrade, and some small details are looking out of date… yet again, you have a huge and unique room, comfortable king size beds, very clean and in the middle of one of the best areas to stay in Shanghai, for a more than reasonable price. I very much recommend it, I’ll be staying there again on my next travel...
