Checked on Nov 20 for a night transit in Shanghai. The hotel looks charming and clean. The front office staffs are young and efficient. The room is simple but neat, clean modern and has everything needed. ||However, I faced two contrast issues related to temperature which made my stay uncomfortable. It is a common winter problem in China, the room temperature. It is chilling outside around 10C at night in Shanghai, the room stays around 28C if I have the air conditioner on for the fan mode just to get the ventilation. This doesn’t bring good sleep quality especially since the hotel comes with a very good quality down feather comforter. This temperature is warmer than summer. I called the service staff, seems like it is a common problem drawn their attention. Immediately offered to send me an electric fan and have the window open which helps a bit, not perfect. Some hotel air conditioners do bring in fresh air helps to bring the room temperature which is a better solution. The housekeeping staff are nice and efficient bringing the fan and drinking water to my room. Hotels also use the tech gadget, using robots to send requested amenities to the guest room. You could use voice commands like Siri or Google Assistant like to request extra amenities in the room. In these short manpower days, this is definitely a good idea. ||Another problem I face at night is when I step in the shower. I would like to have a hot shower. It is different preferences between people but in this hotel, the hot water temperature is like warm water for drinking, not hot enough for a shower even when I turn to the hot water to the max. I called the service line and they thought I had mixed up the direction of the mixer so I only got cold water. They sent the first staff member to my room and found it was not the case. He simply told me this is the temperature for the whole building. Then he called the duty manager, Martin to come to my room. Again he said that is the warmest water they could have. He called the engineer Gu 顾红辉 on the phone. I can hear the conversation they have on the phone Gu insists that is normal and unwilling to do anything about it. He said the temperature is around 40+C. He also asked me to run the water for a while to bring up the temperature which I did. Should I waste the water for an hour down the drain to see the result? Another excuse given was even if he adjusted the temperature, it would not turn hot immediately and would take time. I said how about an hour later. Gu told Martin temperature is set by an outside contractor which surprised me. What is the job of an engineer in a hotel? I asked if Gu could offer a thermometer so we know the temperature by number which will be more factual than my feelings and his feelings. He said no. If an engineer is without a thermometer, how can he check the common issue like about mentioned Aircon, Room, and water temperature? Very incapable and unreliable engineer. In short, he doesn’t address the issues that he may think it is working just not up to the guest's expectations but not my problem, and take no accountability. ||I hope the management could address these properly, customer experiences and attitude of those incapable staff without accountability. I asked Martin if the shower water at home was like this and obviously the answer was not. Martin as the duty manager for the night was trying hard to help but he seemed reluctant to give strong requests to Gu which I believe is due to respect but this doesn’t solve the problem. I hope this is not the effect of a shortage of manpower, difficult to hire! ||By the way, staffs came to my room stepping in and out of the wet shower, they left all the water footprints on my floor behind without cleaning up or simply offering a new floor mat. This is a small issue but everything counts towards the guest experience. ||Lastly, another problem I have found in the room, the safety box in the room is not safe. It is loosely free sitting in the cabinet not a single screw tie to the cabinet. The whole safe could be taken away from the cabinet without damaging anything. ||I hope the management can address the issues mentioned...
