Hotel Imperial — Hotel in Cali

I booked this hotel based on the rave reviews I read about it but was very disappointed and cannot recommend it. For starters, I arrived at midday and was told I could not check in until 3pm. I said I would wait. Usually, at this point, a hotel would rush to ready your room or give your check-in some priority. NOT HERE! They stared at me for 3 hours as I sat in reception waiting and only at 3pm on the dot checked me in. Service generally was extremely slow, unconcerned, and annoying. The idiot receptionist did not speak English, but, when I spoke in Spanish, pretended not to understand a word of that either. Useless! The hotel is located in the centre of Cali – which is a dump anyway – but this hotel, in particular, is located on a noisy street frequented by pimps, transvestites, hookers, and drunken louts until the late hours of the morning. The breakfast, included in the price, was a non-event: a glass of artificial orange nectar, a dry bit of bread, and an old egg... served by a supercilious waiter with attitude! The kitchen staff treated the restaurant area as their private lounge and were talking, laughing, and shouting at the top of their lungs for the duration of the breakfast hour... most un-relaxing. The hotel makes much of its rooftop jacuzzi and swimming pool and its saunas (wet AND dry). I am sorry to report that the jacuzzi was empty, the wet sauna was out-of-order, and they would not switch on the dry sauna even on request. The pool was dirty and sad and there was not even a chair to sit on in the pool area. The view from the rooftop was ok. As to the room itself: basic, non-descript, nothing. The Good: This hotel is a great value for what you get. It's in a great location. I was able to walk to most museums and attractions. The breakfast was delicious. One morning I had eggs, fresh fruit, beef, coffee, and fresh juice. Another morning I had chicken soup, omelet, arepa, cheese, and coffee.||||The Bad: The acoustics of the hotel are HORRIBLE. If anyone even breathes in the hallway you'll hear it. Okay. That may be an exaggeration. The point is you can hear every conversation in the hallway. Bad bad hotel. Skip it and save your money for a nice hotel, preferably in El Peñon or Granada. This is a terrible hotel, dirty and in a very bad location. ||||Este hotel es realmente malo. La relación precio-calidad no se justifica: habitaciones sucias, camas pequeñas y blandas, hotel necesita una remodelación urgente, las camareras llegan desde temprano a hacer ruido en el corredor de las habitaciones. Pésima ubicación: en pleno centro, ruidoso y en una zona fea de día y de noche.||||Es muy costoso para lo que realmente es. Reservé dos noches pero fue tan desagradable que preferí cancelar la reserva y en plenas vacaciones, tramitar la devolución del dinero y pasarme a uno mejor. Me dieron una segunda que también tocó pedir limpiar pues el piso estaba lleno de pelos de anteriores huéspedes.
