Oscar and Nathaly were professional and kind receptionists. The whole hotel was kept clean including our family’s rooms. There are plenty of options to choose from for breakfast, and they’re better than the average hotel breakfast buffet. The pool on the first floor was quaint and is around 5 feet deep. The pool on the top had water jets and is nice to enjoy at night after a long day. It comes in handy since the weather there is warm and humid. You may occasionally run into other hotel guests, but for the most apart it felt very private which I enjoyed.
I recommend you consider the options for excursions which are recommended by the receptionists. If you're in Cartagena for vacation, you'll want to spend a day or two enjoying the city's culture including la Ciudad Amurallada and El Castillo de San Felipe. You'll also want to spend some days enjoying beaches which is where the recommendations are helpful.
We chose the private guide trip to Baru - Playa Blanca and Isla del Encanto in Islas Rosarios. You’re going to be tempted to do some research on finding better prices elsewhere, but at the end of the day, you’ll see that these recommended options make sense for what you're getting. Yes, you'll find cheaper packages on Expedia or even at Los Pegasos port, but they don't offer the same. I would book these options again through the hotel if the opportunity presented itself.
The hotel is located in a prime spot with several restaurants surrounding it. You will not go hungry in this city, but expect to pay higher prices compared to Medellin.
There were spots in the hotel with poor or no Wifi coverage. The Wifi would also drop randomly at times. This can be problematic if you need a stable internet connection for work, research, or entertainment. I also wished there were options for lunch or dinner meals, even if...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVED our stay at Casa La Cartujita! We originally booked for March 2020, but had to postpone to March 2021 due to the pandemic. Nathaly and the team were so kind, helpful, and accommodating from our very first emails, to our entire 7 day stay there. The hotel is in an incredible location within the Walled City - it’s within walking distance to amazing restaurants, bars, and cafes. We even walked to Getsemani a few times. We felt totally safe walking in the area around the hotel. Not sure if it’s always like this, but we had to ring the doorbell whenever we’d come back to the hotel. This wasn’t an issue for us, and it made us feel even more safe staying there.
We had a balcony room with an awesome view of the street below, and the room was super clean and refreshing. The balcony door/window did a great job of blocking out almost all the noise, but you can still (very faintly) hear the sounds of horses, street entertainers, and music - this was still not a bother to us (it's Cartagena!), and we always had a good night's sleep.
Early in our stay, I believe we were the only visitors at the hotel. Even when more guests arrived, the hotel premises was always clean and quiet. There’s a rooftop with a jacuzzi and great views. We also really loved the delicious Colombian breakfast served every day. It was some of the best food we had in Cartagena. Compliments to the chef!
This modern and stylish hotel is in a prime location, has clean and comfortable rooms, and offers 5-star service from their friendly staff. I highly recommend staying at Casa La Cartujita if you ever visit...
Read moreSince we arrived, we felt the hotel was taking advantage of us as tourists. The offered us to arrange the transportation from the airport, so we accepted and explained we just needed a regular sedan. In the airport we found two big official signs warning to be aware of the fair taxi rates: the rate from the airport to our hotel in the center was 12.800 COP. We also asked in the airport to a formal taxi driver (with a nice sedan) and his price was 15.000 COP. You can imagine our surprise when we found out that we had to pay 60.000 COP (yes, 4 times more) for the transportation that the hotel had arranged (payable to the hotel of course). When we asked the reason for such difference, they said that their service was not called taxi but “transfer” and that all the hotels in the area charge the same rate (price concertation, which is anticompetitive and ilegal in most countries). We chose this little hotel because we read the reviews about the employers being very nice and reliable. But we feel we cannot trust them; we cannot even ask for their help getting any...
