Plaza Santo Domingo lies at the heart of the old walled city of Cartagena and is one of the city's most famous squares. The square is named after the Santo Domingo Church that stands in one of its corners and is lined with charming colonial buildings. The restaurants provide ample outdoor seating and are the perfect spot for dinner or a nightcap. The lively square is full of tourists and street vendors at all hours of the day. Sadly, the square has a sordid past and was the site of executions during the Spanish Inquisition where Jewish people and non-Catholics were persecuted. There is even a legend that the Devil himself tried jumping on the roof of the Church of Santo Domingo You can learn more about this tragic time in Cartagena’s history at the Palace of the Inquisition. A real tourist attraction is the statue of the naked woman laying there on a high rock.

Same old Plaza of my hometown. Beautiful historical church where someone is often getting married. You can also find some tasty food and coffee in the shops around the plaza. Try not to mind people offering you from boat tours to necklaces or even weed... Just don't buy anything. Its surely over priced and modt likely a hoax.

Loved the beauty. The only thing that made this place ugly was the CONSTANT harassment to buy things. I get it, that's how some make the most of their living but this isn't somewhere you go to relax. We got used to it after a while though. Other than that, I would visit again.

Nice plaza / square but not as nice as a few others within the walled city. It's a very busy tourist trap in this end of town. We ate at one of the restaurants here and was nice to overlook the large cathedral. If here for only one night I preferred the Palaza Madrid
