This was a really disappointing stay. Firstly, when we checked in there were no towels in the room and the floor was filthy, it hadn’t even been vacuumed. I requested towels from the housekeeping staff and after waiting for 20 minutes, I then had to go to reception to ask. Then, the toilet was blocked. Someone came and fixed it, but it stopped working again the next evening. We were told we needed to move all of our bags and belongings to another room for the rest of our stay as they would need to undertake major works to fix the toilet. This was at 9pm at night and my partner was severely ill so it was not ideal. In the new room, two condom packets had been left on the shelf (see picture) which is disgusting and shows that the rooms are not thoroughly cleaned. The next day, they asked us to move back to the previous room, despite the fact we had already moved our bags and settled in the new room. After a discussion, they allowed us to stay in the new room. The window in the new room was absolutely terrible and didn’t even close, so even from the 8th floor you could hear loud traffic sounds and shouting. I requested that the window was fixed and two people came to attempt to fix it, but couldn’t complete the repairs. It should have been a simple repair of the handle.
Breakfast was pretty awful and I suspect it was that which made us severely ill with sickness for 2 days each.
The ‘co-working’ space on the ground floor is terrible, with loud music blasting, even at 4am when nobody is there (when I started my working hours). I had to ask them to turn it down so I could take a call.
The co-working space on the second floor is much better and quiet, but the power sockets on the back row of desks didn’t work. The staff also didn’t tell us about this area when we checked in, we only saw it by chance as the lift stopped on that floor.
This hotel looks good on the outside, but there is no substance or quality and nothing works...
Read moreA new, high-concept design hotel in Laureles. Excellent value, you get a lot for the money here. Highly recommend over a similar-priced DORM in el poblado -- you can get a nice private w bath for about the same as a bunk over there ($120k COP/ ~$30usd 8/24).
It's similar to a Moxy type Marriott in the US/EU - Rooms are small but public spaces large and usable. Plenty of work space, quiet nooks for calls, small rooms for breakouts etc. I like the design here better than Moxy, even if the startup-style motivational mottos posted everywhere are a bit over the top (you're not going to see fu__ on the walls of most workplaces, creative or not...)
Rooms are well thought out and have lots of storage, comfy beds, and water pressure that'll peel your skin off. Even the small ones have a mini kitchen with a fridge and burner - very nice!
No AC at this price point, so you have to choose between open window ventilation with a lot of traffic noise, or rooms that get pretty stuffy. I think the bigger rooms face away from the street. Not a huge deal, but you will notice. There's no bars blasting music nearby, so it's kinda white noise and the windows seal well.
The included breakfast is good! Fresh eggs, fruit, rotating bread/arepa/etc juice and coffee (sugar, but no cream 😥)
Vibe is more "working on my laptop" than party hostel -- perf for me, but if you're trying to pub crawl with backpackers this isn't the spot. No bar, but they have a cafe I didn't try.
Good neighborhood, easy walk to a lot of great food and drink. I felt perfectly safe walking around alone at night, lots of folks out and about.
It is very far from the metro however (~30 min walk) and they don't actually have bikes to rent. Also, the roof deck is closed.
Overall: Recommended! Excellent bang-for-buck!
Suggestion: ceiling fans in the rooms would be way better that those loud...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Indie in Medellin for two nights with my wife, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The concept and design of the hotel are creative and visually appealing, but that's where the positives end.
The rooms are incredibly small and uncomfortable. There’s no desk, no trash bin, and the foldable bed was loud and unpleasant to sleep on. The bathroom was also tiny. The room was unbearably hot, with a window that barely opened, and while there was a fan, it was extremely noisy, making it difficult to sleep at night. To make matters worse, our room faced the main street, which meant constant noise.
There is no housekeeping service at the hotel. Towels aren’t changed, trash isn’t removed, and beds aren’t made. When we inquired, the staff seemed surprised and told us that guests need to specifically request this at the reception. Nowhere is this policy indicated, and no one informed us about it upon check-in. This added to our overall negative experience.
The service was inconsistent—some staff were friendly and helpful, while others were outright rude. The biggest letdown, however, was the breakfast. It was supposed to start at 7:00 AM, but hot food, like eggs, wasn’t available until 7:30 AM. The selection was minimal, with only two types of fruit, two kinds of bread, one type of cold cut, and one type of cheese. The scrambled eggs were made in tiny batches, often running out after just a few servings.
The worst part was when I was told I wasn’t allowed to go back for a second serving at the buffet. This wasn’t posted anywhere, nor was it communicated at check-in. It was extremely unprofessional and embarrassing.
Overall, I can't recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other options in Medellin, and I'm sure many of them provide a...
