Hostal Naskua — Hotel in Santa Marta

I booked a bed in a dorm at this hostel two days in advance of my stay, and when I arrived at 10 pm, exhausted, after dark, with a large suitcase, I was told there was no bed for me - and that they had not received my reservation. The staff (who were two young guys who looked approximately fifteen years old) kept insisting that I must have booked through booking.com, which I hadn't. I kept explaining how I had booked, and showed them the proof of my reservation. They just stared me, expecting me to venture off into the dark and find another hostel. I stood my ground, and after more than an hour, a bed magically opened up - I was told someone had cancelled their reservation (which seemed highly doubtful - I suspect my reservation had simply been bungled). The room was basic, but very close to the dining room where breakfast was served, and techno music started blasting out of the breakfast room at 7:00 a.m. - which was not pleasant given how little sleep I'd gotten after my harrowing evening the night before. Hostal Naskua was very clean, affordable, and the staff was excellent. The hostel is walking distance from many restaurants and attractions in Santa Marta.
