"Mistake" P.V. is growing and with it come people that want to take advantage of tourists and those who don't know. This is one of the "new" properties that throw up a few square box buildings they call "cabanas", convert the existing house into a restaurant (and office) and pretend to be a resort to charge $100 per night or worse. This is exactly the type of property the locals complain about that are ruining the local vibe and exist only for the sake of greed. This property is so far out of town tour drivers won't go down there and taxi drivers have no idea where it's located -- which is odd. Bike rentals (for the 5 mile trip to town) were double the normal price!
When we arrived, the we were "upgraded" to a room with 3 double beds and basically a shared room masking group hostel situations. The room stunk like old alcohol and the beds weren't made. The rooms were so unmemorable it's hard to write this review, even for a box with no decorations. The pool, if you want to call it that, was pathetic and landscaping seemed like a joke. Save yourself the hassle, there are tons of other options in the area for the same price. This is good if you are a group of travelers who want zero frills accomodations and basically a tin roof over your head.
Having stayed at 5 different spots in PV, this is by far the worst for the same price. There is no charm, resort feel, or anything other than "here is a box room and you are in Costa Rica."
Don't be fooled by the positive ratings of the restaurant. The restaurant has 5 stars, but the people reviewing the accommodations talk about bugs, spiders, and filth.
Beaches: Across the road, 1/2 mile down the road. Not as close as they pretend. Local amenities: None. Puerto Viejo is far down the way (in local terms). Manzanillo is far. Punta Uva is far. You are stuck here if you don't have a vehicle.
Take it from someone who has been to PV a few times... Pass on this spot. This isn't Pura Vida except to the owner...

Read moreWhen my wife and I got to the "room" (aka shack) it was not as advertised. First off there was a ant nest growing at the top (of a high) ceiling in our room (over the beds). When we accidentally bumped into the picture frame on the wall a bunch ants came scurrying out. There also other insects that ran across the floor when we moved around. Then we opened the bathroom, instantly we were hit with a very moldy smell. Although the room appeared clean, the bugs and mold would say otherwise. When we spoke with the manager about these things and he said "its the tropics". ||||We could handle the fact the room was small and cramped (beds against the corners of the room, and not a lot of extra room), but the insects and moldy smell (not healthy) was too much for us.||||We left immediately the "hotel" and found far better accommodations for virtually the same price (and closer to town).||||The only positive things we can say was one of the managers was nice (although not very understanding) and the pool seemed as advertised.||||Avoid this place.||||SIDE NOTE: When we contacted Expedia (who we booked this place through) and explained are experience, they were utterly useless in getting us a refund. We will never use...
