I am Dr. J. Ricks. Holiday Inn Aurola, it's staff, location and services are exceptional and above reproach. The competence, efficiency and professionalism of the management and staff stands ABOVE all others!
During my many visit to the wonderful country and beautiful people of Costa Rica, the "Ticos" are a very kind, polite and pleasant people. Further the country is so beautiful, people from around the world come to enjoy! Such is the same with the management and staff at Holiday Inn Aurola!
I know Ginnette Fernandez the front desk manager (jefe), and she is highly competent, professional, responsive and does all she can to make your stay enjoyable! In addition, the staff is highly kind and professional as well! In no way would anyone be mistreated; if anything, pushy Americans treat the kind Ticos disrespectful. Remember, you are in THEIR country, so treat them with high respect as you would if visiting anyone's home. Further, the staff has plenty of English speaking personnel to help (though you are visiting "their" country and you should learn Espanol, NOT, force them to speak English!). The extraordinary staff will assist you in any way they can, and communicate both verbally and in writing in English!
Ginnette Fernandez and her staff are always improving their services and interaction with guests. You will receive the BEST in accommodations of any hotel to include spectacular views, inside pool, gym and jacuzzi, etc.
For those who complain about the surroundings, San Jose, is like any major city in the world, and Ginnette Fernandez and her staff ARE NOT responsible for your security outside the hotel, however, once on the property, the security is second to none and extraordinary! But knowing Ginnette Fernandez, if she could serve you this way, she would be the FIRST to assist!
I take GREAT OFFENSE of anyone to criticize my friend (Ginnette Fernandez), her staff and the wonderful hotel, as TICOs are a beautiful and kind people by nature! Also, the bloviating of issues with the hotel that does not exist. I woke up late at night (3:30 a.m.) and the night doorman made a delicious cup of coffee for me! That is SERVICE!
I have made many friend in Costa Rica, and many are my friend from Holiday Inn Aurola! I thank them so much for their friendship!
Holiday Inn Aurola is the PREMIER place to stay when visiting San Jose, Costa Rica! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Read moreI’m really surprised this hotel is part of the Bonvoy group - I expected a certain level of quality that is totally absent at Delta Aurola. The rooms are so dated, the carpets are dirty (not just stains, but lack of vacuuming), the bathtub drain didn’t work well, the gym was tiny, cramped, with multiple machines out of order… it was just gross all around. They have signs saying they’re “remodeling,” I guess to excuse the appearance, but there were no signs I could tell of any remodeling happening during the 3 weeknights I spent over two visits at the beginning and end of my trip. The only area of the hotel that is clean and pleasant is the lobby. ||Besides the poor facilities, we were really not impressed with the service attention to detail. We paid extra to have 2 additional people in the room, yet still the rooms only had 2 towels. We paid for a “junior suite with sofa bed,” thinking there would in fact be a pull out bed. During our first visit, there was a pull out bed but it had no linens and took multiple calls to get housekeeping help. During our second visit, there was just an old gross couch (no pullout) and we had to ask at least 5 times (calls, visits to front desk, file request through Bonvoy app…) over the course of 4 hours to finally get housekeeping services to bring a sheet and blanket to sleep on top of the couch. Last, we took a red eye flight to San Jose so we paid for an extra night so that we could use the room immediately upon checking in at 8am. I called ahead of time to tell the staff about our late check in plans. Still upon arrival the room was not ready.||I’ll be more careful in the future assuming a level of standards simply because a hotel is part of the Bonvoy group, because this experience showed me that Bonvoy standards are not...
Read moreWe stayed at the Delta Hotels San José Aurola and quickly realized: this wasn’t a relaxing stay – it was a full-on horror hotel experience.
The area is dark and sketchy, with shady individuals and poor street lighting. The hotel itself feels like it hasn’t been renovated since the 1970s. Our first room had a door that wouldn’t open without force – unsettling to say the least. Inside, the room smelled of mold, the furniture was dated, and the toilet produced an unbearable siren-like noise.
After requesting a new room, we got one with the same unpleasant smell. The walls were so thin that even on the 14th floor, we heard traffic, motorcycles, and loud music from nearby clubs until 3 a.m.
The most frightening part: on the first night at 1 a.m., two unknown men attempted to enter our room with what seemed to be valid key cards. They only failed because we had double-locked the door. It was a terrifying experience. We reported it immediately and followed up multiple times, but the hotel never gave us a clear explanation. We still don’t know if it was a mistake or an attempted break-in.
Later in the stay, the room safe suddenly lost power and popped open – compromising the security of our valuables. On top of that, housekeeping repeatedly forgot to replace towels or clean the bathroom. We had to ask several times just to receive fresh towels and basic cleaning.
Breakfast was overpriced (more than €20 per person) with very limited options, and on our last day, there was no hot water in the shower.
This stay was far below the expected Marriott standard – the combination of poor hygiene, noise, serious safety concerns, and staff indifference made it one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the price, and absolutely not...
