...is worth staying here. But I'll be thorough!||||Facility: Very easy to find, clean and safe looking from the outside. Located near the end of a quiet street near other hotels, a college, and a high rise office. There is a garage for cars as well as parking out front. Buzzer at the garage door lets you in (and out) 24 hrs a day.||||Check in: Staff speaks English and Spanish and are happy to help in either language. Gave names and ID, received our room keys, and were given a quick rundown of the available facilities and locations.||||Apartment: Immaculate. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable and sufficent living and dining areas, and spacious bathroom. Bathroom has hairdryer and vanity mirror and enough counterspace for a family. Bedrooms have plenty of closet storage space with shelves and hangers, comfortable mattresses and bedding, good working AC, large TV, and accessible lights and power outlets. While there is no mirror in the rooms, there is a full length mirror in the hallway. Tiled floor is NOT cold in the mornings, which can be an issue in some places. Not here!||||Maintenance: Our apartment was cleaned thoroughly each day. Beds were made, towels either hang or replaced, drying dishes put away. We were happy each day to come home to everything being fresh.||||Amenities: Italian restaurant on-site. By the pound laundry service available for guests. Currency exchange with the front desk was a life saver when we arrived on a Saturday after the banks were closed until Monday. Tons of brochures on activities in the reception area, although there are no maps. Cute sofas and wicker chairs are located in common areas with nice views of the property should you wish to read or relax outside your room. The pool is small for laps but kept very clean and good for families with children. Breakfast every day. Free Wifi available in rooms and around property.||||Breakfast: Our favorite part of the day was enjoying our delicious breakfast poolside al fresco. Starting at 6:30am, a buffet of breakfast foods await. Toast, yogurt, cereal, granola, fresh fruit (varied each day, but always pineapple :) ), cheese, tomato, ham, rolls and buns, gallo pinto, eggs, a made to order omelette station, fried plantains, and an assortment of changing sides made the start of our day perfect. Standouts were the pancakes with Nutella and banana, the caulifower, and mini chicken and carrot quesadillas. We were grateful the breakfast started so early so we could eat before we drove 3 hours to our activity for the day.||||Staff: Throughout our stay they were nothing but helpful, from getting us more towels, to opening the garage door promptly, to changing our money and answering general questions. Their green approach to saving paper and conserving water was also noted. Completely recommend...
Read moreI spent a week at Suites Cristina over the Christmas holidays and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Check in was easy and efficient and we were ushered into a beautiful well appointed suite. It was comfortable and well furnished and had everything we needed. Whatever was not in the suite, you could ask for. I loved the fact that there was coffee available in the lobby 24/7 and a laundromat downstairs with washer dryer and an ironing board. ||||The housekeepers did an excellent job of keeping our suite spanking clean and replenishing towels and supplies. I've stayed in scores of hotels over the years, and I have to say this is the cleanest room/apartment I've ever stayed in!||||Almost every single review I read before making my booking raved about the breakfasts and I couldn't agree more. This is far from your hastily thrown together continental breakfast. This is a full fledged buffet with a host of dishes catering to different palates. There was a variety of typical Costa Rican fare which differed every day so you didn't get bored of it, and you could also have omelettes and eggs, salads, veggies along with fresh fruit and a variety of cereals and juices. Honestly you could not want for more. The restaurant staff was as efficient as the housekeeping staff, and were always polite and accommodating to special requests. It was interesting how you got to know the faces of the other guests in the small outdoor breakfast area, and after a couple of days, it really felt like one big family as we all chatted with one another and shared about our experiences from the day before! It's just that cosy feeling that you get at Cristina Suites - you feel very much at home.||||I was disappointed not to have the chance to try the restaurant for dinner as it was closed for the holidays, but I have no doubt it would have matched the standard of the rest of the hotel. ||||In terms of location, it's walking distance to the Sabana Park, a huge park with a walking and jogging trail. It is also walking distance to a number of restaurants a convenience store and a bank. We uber-ed it everywhere and could get downtown to the Central market and to other attractions in pretty much 15 - 20 minutes depending on the traffic, so we found the location quite convenient. ||||Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable, convenient and pleasant stay at a...
Read moreSuites Cristina offers an amazing amount of space for a reasonable price – way beyond what you can find at any hotel. That makes it a great home base for a multi-day stay in San Jose on business or pleasure. The units are quiet and clean and have everything you need – separate bedrooms, bathroom (shower), simple but complete kitchen, small eating area, and small couch/sitting area. The wifi works. The price includes an ample hot breakfast served in the courtyard by the small pool. A washer and dryer are available to use (buy tokens), or you can pay for a laundry service. A full-service Italian restaurant adjoins the hotel (through a small somewhat hidden passageway). || ||Many of the clients are Costa Ricans and other Spanish-speakers who appreciate the great value compared to a tourist hotel. And a number of non-Spanish speaking gringos like us. Reception is open 24 hours, and the staff are very helpful with any request or information you need, in Spanish or English. ||||The hotel is walking distance to the National Stadium, convenient if you are in town for a sporting event or rock concert. But tucked away on the side street, so the noise of the event never bothers your rest. ||||A variety of restaurants can be found in the neighborhood – Chinese, fried and roasted chicken, Peruvian, panini, Spanish, Korean/Japanese, others. They are scattered down the side streets north of La Sabana park; you will have to explore a bit to find them. 5-15 minutes walk. ||||So what’s wrong? Well, not wrong, but missing. Character and charm. The hotel is very plain. The furnishings are simple, functional, inexpensive. There is hardly any decoration or style. Some of the rooms need more light. They aren’t inviting spaces to spread out and read for hours, to relax and fill your soul. They are excellent as a home base, but you will want to spend your days out sightseeing, at special events, or doing whatever business brought you...
