Simple Fresh Eatery & Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Mata Redonda

We’ve been longtime customers in Escazu location and always had a great experience, so we were excited to try this one. Unfortunately, our visit was extremely disappointing.

Despite the restaurant being busy (which we understand), we waited over 15 minutes just to get a menu—and no one acknowledged us during that time. Meanwhile, several tables that arrived after us were greeted, given menus, and even had their orders taken while we were still sitting unnoticed. Servers were walking past our table multiple times to serve others, but not a single person checked on us.

We eventually spoke to the manager and decided to leave without ordering. Her explanation was that it was “because of the crowd,” but we’ve been in busier situations in Escazu and were always treated with courtesy and efficiency.

Really disappointed in how we were overlooked. Sadly, we won’t be coming back to...

The boosted rating is because the cafe is beautiful to work from and their cold brew is fantastic.

Thoughts 💭 Let’s start with the toppings. The cream was tasty but could have been whipped a bit more. The berries and mango were very fresh and the cacao nibs added are wonderful crunch. The toppings as a whole were a hit!

The toast itself the bread was a good choice, the vanilla used in the custard was also wonderfully strong. The lack of cinnamon was always going to cause a penalisation unfortunately for them. The level of custardyness made it far too mushy in the middle. The toast for me unfortunately let it down. It has a lot of potential!
