Based on the location, the view, and a (relatively) decent price, we booked a room at this hotel for 3 nights. Unfortunately, on arrival, we discovered that almost everything about this hotel was misleading, and we were unpleasantly surprised at every turn. When we got there, we discovered that there were exactly two (2) first-come/first-serve parking spots for a hotel with over 7 rooms. The remaining guests were told to park wherever they could along the hotel’s very narrow, busy, effectively one-lane street with no shoulder.
Next, we discovered that our room, billed as a "suite," was barely wide enough for the bed in it, and had nothing to sit on besides the bed. It had an efficiency kitchen right behind the bed, and shared both its balcony and a curtained, but non-sound-proofed, glass wall with the outdoor restaurant and hotel kitchen, which opened around 7am. Concerned about this, when we asked if there was anything else available with a little more privacy, we were greeted with shrugs and them pretending to not understand the concern. (We later discovered that every room in the hotel had this "feature" in common with either the pool or restaurant decks.
But all of that we could forgive as possibly poor research on our part. What made our stay “unforgettable” in the worst way was that, on arrival, we were told that the main entrance would close around 8pm, but that there was a side door that guests returning after that could use. The hotel desk clerk mumbled something about having trouble with this door (we were not given a key or code to this gate), but (repeatedly) assured us that, in the meantime, this door would be open until at least midnight. Yet when we returned from dinner later that evening around 8:30p, we discovered this door and the entire hotel dark and locked. We then reached out to both the Whatsapp chat for the hotel and called every phone number on it, leaving messages with all of them to try to get someone to open the building for us, but received absolutely NO response. EVER. (We did eventually manage to regain access to our room later that evening without help from the staff, but could have easily had to spend the entire night in our car.)
The next morning, we confronted the front desk about all this when they reopened and confirmed that the messages had been received. But, while they shook their heads and apologized, they made no effort to make amends, and assured us that this would not happen again, but did not provide means to avoid it.
And (you guessed it…) on the 3rd night, the same thing nearly happened again! We drove back from dinner and saw that the main entrance was open, but by the time we managed to park along the road and return, both entrances were locked. Fortunately, that time we were able to flag down someone on the staff before they left the building and regained access to our room.
Incensed by their attitude toward all of this, we went to confront the front desk at checkout the next morning, requesting a discount of one night’s stay as recompense. After much grumbling, they agreed to reimburse us $50 for our troubles. However, it’s now been over a month, we’ve still received no such reimbursement, despite frequent follow-ups by us, and no one else from the hotel management has, to this day, ever responded to our messages about being locked out of the hotel, nor apologized for it.
So, if you’re looking for good service or reasonable privacy,...
Read moreOur small family run hotel was beautiful , great location in the rain forest and ocean view…we were the only ones there most of the time except on weekends when we saw a few more people.
However, because it was off season they had no staff except one maid who was bad at her job. The owners were around only in the daytime sometimes and we had to WhatsApp them if we wanted anything.
The maid never cleaned our room properly. I mean she did the beds and sheets, but I found smudge marks on the walls, tables and curtains. I think they just assumed 2 guys we wouldn’t care. We complained and they comped one night, but j in had to ask for it because we were threatening to leave. In the pictures it looked like two bedroom but it was only one bedroom with a big bed and the living room had a pull out bed. Not exactly a 4 star place and it look far from the pictures. The owner finally put a single bed in the living room and that’s where I slept.
The price was $200-250 a night which was fair because we were sharing and it was huge suit. I never felt like I was in a tight room. We had to ask for coffee a lot of times even though it came with the room and sometimes they didn’t want to give us more than one pouch., so we bought more coffee from the super market. The room looked like it had a private balcony, but actually it was a shared balcony with all the other guests…it was like a communal balcony attached to the restaurant, but it didn’t matter because we were the only ones there for the most part.
The restaurant was run by one cook/chef who was not great he was a cook from Canada living down there…nice guy but I wouldn’t call him a chef and his food a bit over priced and not great so we never ate there.
I asked for extra towels because it was hot and muggy down there and I got them…but I used their “laundry service” one day…I think it was the maid who did my laundry the first time… and she threw my cloths in a bag not folded and somewhat damp and I paid $25 US cash???, I was mad, so I complained again and the husband redid my laundry and folded it properly the second time
Overall the couple that owned the hotel were nice and I think they were trying. The hotel was fine, the price was fine and the location was great, but the services sucked! Also, I felt like the hotel was looking old and used and needed some attention and...
