I must be living in an alternate universe. We took guidance from TripAdviser and Audley reviews when choosing Si Como No. We are seasoned travellers. This is not a 4 star or even 3 star hotel. We don’t understand the reviews?
First off, read their cancellation policy CAREFULLY. We booked and less than two days later requested to cancel. Valerie Ovarez refused to refund us stating its “too close” a window to the arrival although it was nearly two months out. Quite shocking from a hotel that seemed to have a good reputation. I can only assume they really needed our money. So my advise, read the fine print before booking.
We got there after 10 previous outstanding stays in Arenal ( La Finca Lodge) Nosara ( Tierra Magnifica) Monteverde (Hidden Canopies and Koora Lodge). Without any hesitation , all these hotels get an enthusiastic 5 stars thumbs up. Then we arrived at Si Como No
Front reception staff particularly Christopher were extremely nice!! The views outstanding! That’s where the positives end. This place needs a complete overhaul. It is tired! It sits on the busy road of Manuel Antonio. The grounds have been patched up and painted so many times over to hide the deficiencies. We entered the room to a funky smell. They said the air conditioner was off but this morning it’s still there. The furniture is scratched up, seat covers stained and gross. I think the government should check the rooms for mold. There clear evidence of mold in the shower.
We went to the pool after a 5 hour drive and there were no chairs. People were laying on towels on the concrete!! 4 stars? The seat cushions were also stained and unappealing although they are leatherette so there’s no excuse not to have someone clean them every few days. Afternoon music was cranked up although it’s supposed to be the “ adult” pool. I could take pictures of the pool athe patch jobs, the upper pool seemed caked with sunscreen.
My husband woke up and for the first time this trip he complained of a back ache. Thankfully this was not the case for me
Met a couple this morning who said they paid for what they thought was the highest level accommodations. Omg the description of their room ( which was changed) went beyond words. Their bed faced a wall. The couches, I believe 3, were torn, they had no water. Keep in mind in fairness this is second hand info. We didn’t see it but suffice it to say they are very upset. They agreed the place needs a facelift. I just saw there review on tripadviser! Look at their photos!
Loud music was piped into the breakfast area. Service was so slow because we moved to an upper level to avoid the noise but it was HOT. Our choices… loud music or heat first thing in the morning, we chose the heat. I included a picture of their buffet’s scrambled eggs. What are your thoughts?
If you are looking for a quiet retreat this is NOT the place to come. We are sitting at the adult pool listening to constant road noise from motorcycles, trucks and cars just behind us. We were also told not to bring our car to the beach. It wasn’t safe.
I’d say travel a little further to Dominical or Uvita. If you choose MA we do not recommend this hotel. At best we give it 2.5 stars. We always try to find the best out of a bad situation but there’s no finding anything positive about this rundown hotel We couldn’t wait to leave. We went down the coast a short distance to Oxygen Villas. Now there’s a fabulous hotel and an easy drive to Manuel Antonio park and the Unitas...

The greeting at Arenal Springs was beyond my expectations. Sí Como No greeted us with a woman who hardly made eye contact and was chewing on her finger nails.
We were given a standard metal key which I have not received for a room in well over a decade. It took a lot of maneuvering of the key to get it in just the perfect place to get the lock to work.
When I opened the door I noticed ants and geckos in the room. The smell of mold/mildew was over powering. The door was very thin and missing some bamboo pieces exposing plywood. The sliding glass door was almost impossible to open.
But the view was amazing.
We didn’t complain because we thought all the rooms were as run down, until we made friends with someone who was complaining about their room. They showed it to us and it was so nice compared to ours. So I spoke with reception about it. The response I got was laughing and “That room has a beautiful view.”
I was shown two other, essentially identical rooms to mine and decided to stay. They did bring a dehumidifier but with so many cracks in the room the humidity never fell below 80%.
When we met up for breakfast with our friends they told us they received a complimentary bottle of wine for their inconvenience with their room. And mind you, their room was by far better than ours and all we got was laughed at.
If you are sensitive or allergic to mold and mildew do not stay here. My allergies were out of control and I felt terrible my entire stay.
Not to mention Rico Tico. 🤮 We ate all over Costa Rica and didn’t get sick until we ate there.
It’s also important to note the resort” is not gated and protected like the other resort we visited.
We used a travel agent so we didn’t know exactly what we were getting. We have spoken to the travel agent so hopefully no one else has to spend their time in paradise in such a...
Read morewhere do I start. The minute we checked in we were greeted by the staff. They were very friendly and kind and helped us with our bags and to our room. When we stepped into our room, we started to notice some problems. The bed sheets had stains on them. The king bed had black dots on the sheets and the twin XL had large brown stains which were also on the wall. The area that separates the two beds was where we kept our luggage since we thought that the floor wouldn’t be the best idea. Well putting our bags there wasn’t smart either. We began to notice the next morning that there were small bugs crawling in our bags and around them. When we lifted up our bags, we saw so so so many of these and were disgusted. Not only were we approached by those small bugs but multiple spiders which would hang on the top of the ceiling, ants in the fans and moths. The worst was our encounter with the giant cockroach. We immediately called the staff, whom took care of it and weren’t rude in any way. But at that point we were debating finding another hotel because that many bugs was just too much. My dad looked around to see why and how the cockroach just appeared and we noticed that the bathroom window was wide open along with the air vent. Our sinks drain also was open and the water wouldn’t go down the drain whenever we would go wash our hands or brush our teeth. The second and third night were better but we noticed that our room hadn’t been cleaned. After killing all the bugs the room was better but the WiFi oh man. They had warned us that the WiFi would be bad in the rooms and it was really bad. We would get kicked off 6the WiFi and max would have 1 bar. Kinda frustrating but at least they warned us. If it wasn’t for the kind staff during breakfast and at the reception desk, this review would be a 1 star. The staff was very friendly and helped us out. Even though the breakfast was ok the staff made sure to make us...
