Day 6 of my group trip to Costa Rica! It was our second day in Manuel Antonio. Check out my reel from yesterday to see our trip to the national park. One of the best things to do in Manuel Antonio is take a catamaran cruise. Sunshine, drinks, swimming, beautiful views, it was amazing. I even challenged myself to jump off the top of the boat even though it was scary! At night we dined at El Avion, a unique restaurant with an airplane inside of it. You can have a drink inside the plane, take selfies in the cockpit, but the best view is from the patio. It's one of the best places in Manuel Antonio to watch the sunset. #CostaRica #ManuelAntonio #puravida #costaricacool #costaricapuravida #catamaran #catamarancruise #thingstodo #tlpicks #traveldiary #travelexpert #travelblogger #costaricalife #costarica🇨🇷 #roamtheplanet #theglobewanderer #travelreels #thetravellingnomads #vacationmode #visualsoflife #artofvisuals #bucketlist #darlingescapes #passionpassport #grouptrip #grouptravel #mytinyatlas #forbestravelguide #lonelyplanet #tripadvisor

Dining at El Avion was a memorable experience from start to finish. Our meal began with the calamari appetizer, a perfect start cooked to perfection. Moving on to the seafood pasta and tuna dish, we were treated to generous portions that didn’t disappoint. The delightful sauce on the side of the tuna dish added a burst of flavor to the dishes. The restaurant’s theme was captivating, with the unique concept of being inside an airplane. The view was nothing short of stunning, making the experience even more special. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to explore the bar within the airplane itself. While the atmosphere and cuisine were commendable, I would suggest improvements in service. The waitstaff seemed a bit distant, and the checkout process took longer than anticipated. Overall, El Avion provided a unique setting, excellent food, and breathtaking views, making it a memorable dining destination.

A cool, large restaurant that’s centered around an old plane. Rumor has it that it was a spy plane that crashed in Nicaragua. How it got here, I have no idea. The main dining area is an open concept and offers a great view of the forest and beach below. It’s also facing south-west so it’s the perfect spot for dinner and a view of the sunset. You WILL need a reservation for dinner if you want to sit in the main dining area. We did not have a reservation but was seated right away in another dining area inside the plane which was a pretty cool experience. You can sit in the cockpit and pretend to fly the plane. The food was surprisingly good. We assumed it would be touristy (which it is) and the food wouldn’t be good but the coconut curry was delicious and definitely did not skimp out on the seafood. The squid/octopus in the curry was way overcooked and tough to eat, but the taste was good.

There was a very kind gentleman that directed us both in and out of a parking spot! So amazing to not have to blindly back up into traffic. Very friendly lovely man! A person we know was at this restaurant about 10 days ago, and their pictures showed Toucans, a mama sloth plus they said they saw monkeys. They had nothing but positive things to say re: their experience. The parking was our hi-light of our own visit though. The person who sat us was rude - we asked if we could sit with a view and was told more than once ‘no, this is all we have for two people’. We had politely only asked the one time. Yet, she then sat no less than three other couples - they also did not have reservations right after us (I asked them when I went to the bathroom) in great viewing seats of the ocean, vegetation etc. Our sever never asked if we wanted any more drinks, if the food was ok, if we wanted or if we needed anything. Another server who took our plates was asked for a dessert menu and then forgot. So, my husband decided to not ask again. A female server who came by to pick up our empty drink glasses was asked for the check and she forgot. We then asked one of the male servers, and he forgot and my husband had to flag down someone again. We found the servers standing in the bar area and laughing and talking instead of checking on the paying customers. We were not the only ones trying to get service. Several tables were openly complaining to each other. None of the staff seemed to care about customer service, and if it were not for the kind soul helping with parking, the stars on this review would be lower. There are plenty of options on the menu to choose from, and the restaurant has a very unique setup plus layout of the restaurant. The food was ok. Nothing exceptional. We drove over 1.5 hours to visit this restaurant based upon Facebook reviews, and that a person we know had a great experience plus saw some amazing wildlife.

This is an iconic place in Manuel Antonio and has an outstanding view. This was perhaps my 3rd time here over the years and the food and service has definitely has had a decline. We came in for a drink and something to snack on so we ordered a Piña Colada and a Pura Vida (signature cocktail) they were both on the average size considering the price but good amount of liquor and good flavor. We also ordered some beef nachos, this on the other hand were very disappointing. They were rather small for the price. They were also over cooked and done with very little care. The beans were dry, the cheese was scarse and baked into the plate. Finally, my friend ordered a vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate on a stick... Ergo a supermarket popsicle like a Magnum 🤨 (see photo) To make it worse the waiter was borderline rude, took forever to bring a glass of water and finally brought us the bill without us asking for it. I we paid a total of $30.46, and the "delicious popsicle cost $3.45! Definitely not a place I would recommend for food. But maybe a cocktail and the sunset view. However the offer in the area is wide and varied I'm sure you can find a better place.
