This is a hotel restaurant and we weren’t staying at the hotel, but decided to go after seeing great reviews. The view was nice, as was the ambience of the restaurant and the service. First we ordered some cocktails. I had the NY sour which just tasted like red wine served over ice (so not great) and my girlfriend had an aperol spritz, which she said wasn’t the best (but difficult to get that one wrong!!) Starters were pretty good (see pics) - we both opted for stuffed veg (I had bell pepper stuffed with seafood & quinoa, my girlfriend had stuffed onions which were vegan). I could have cooked better at home though. Mains were very average and everything was way overpriced. I ordered the “special” of pork ribs which the waiter did a great job of selling - the way he described it I was expecting a juicy rack of bbq ribs which had been slow-roasted, served over risotto (weird combination, but sounded nice). What I got was 2 ribs (yes 2!!) which were really dry, lacking any real flavour and with hardly any sauce. Underneath there were some flavourless steamed vegetables and some risotto rice which had just been boiled (who does that??). When the plate came I was disappointed, but was hungry and ate it. I was even more disappointed when the bill came and realised they were wanting to charge $24 exc tax for the ribs. The meal was the most expensive we’ve had in Costa Rica but far from the best food. To be fair to the staff I did query the bill and they gave me a discount on the ribs which was appreciated, but it does make me angry when restaurants try to charge so much for very average food in the first place. The place has an open kitchen and I could see several microwaves and lots of food coming out of the freezer, so not surprised quality...
Read moreWe were not guests of this hotel and went for dinner based on the positive Google reviews. I was shocked - Worst meal in Costa Rica. Food was not good and very expensive - priced in USD, paid $21 for a small (tiny) piece of fish, raw curry sauce accompanied by an underwhelming salad of lettuce. Not sure how this qualified as a fish curry given no rice/substantial side/not an actual curry sauce?
We arrived at 8.40pm which I know is late for CR, however, found it inappropriate when the waiter told us we could not order the chicken as it would take too long to cook and the kitchen closed at 9.30 (despite us asking on arrival if dinner was still being served). We asked for alternate recommendations and were not given any solutions/suggestions. Very confusing. My partner had the chicken, which at $20, was dry and a small portion.
Would not recommend this place for dinner. Kitchen staff started playing their own music off their phones by 9.30 (restaurant closed at 10) - not a huge point, just not impressed by this given our overall experience.
I appreciate that most of these reviews relate to a sunset drink; so cannot comment on the quality of that/experience. I had a cocktail and was thoroughly underwhelmed given its price point. I am not one to leave reviews, let alone negative ones, I have just had so many lovely, enjoyable, delicious meals in Costa Rica and wanted to warn others against this place. We came here on our last night and could not regret it more. I feel...
Read moreSuch a fun place to stop! Both my sister and I enjoyed ourselves so immensely the first night we visited, that we had to come back the next evening for drinks and dessert. The highlight was the staff. Paola, Alan, and Linda took such great care of us and truly made as feel like we were home. Paola made us incredible drinks - the passionfruit mocktail (with or without tequila) was delicious, and I also particularly enjoyed a pineapple/ancho Reyes cocktail with a tajin rim.
I especially appreciated the staff’s overall kindness in addition to their willingness to switch back and forth between English and Spanish, as I wanted to practice my Spanish, but my sister doesn’t understand it well and English is more comfortable for her. It was so nice that she felt completely included in the conversation.
We had incredible breakfasts here each morning which were included in our stay at Si Comi No. The Omelette, Huevos Rancheros, and Benedict were favorite dishes of ours. The view is gorgeous, and the open air atmosphere is so calming and inviting. Would...
