We have just returned from Hotel Biokovo and it is definitely not a 4* hotel. The location is excellent on the harbour front within easy reach of the town and beach. Some sites suggest free parking at the hotel, this is not the case. It is €20 per night if available. So if you do have a car, factor this into the cost.|We contacted the hotel twice by email before arrival to secure parking and to ask for an upgrade to a room with a balcony. Both emails were ignored. We upgraded on arrival (€20 a night) only to find the sun blind controller was missing in our room. In the heat the balcony cannot be used without a sun-blind. We asked about it in reception and as we were there for 10 days thought they might locate a new controller but no. We asked to move to a room where the sun canopy works but no. There are I believe 4 sea view rooms with sun canopy’s but only two work. There seems to be no provision in this hotel to get anything fixed that isn’t working. Our curtains kept falling off the rail but that wasn’t fixed either.|The room (non smoking) had a strong smell of smoke which we also complained about to no avail. We overheard another guest at breakfast complaining of the smell of smoke in their room and I have since scrolled through the reviews and it seems a recurring theme. On arrival we had to ask for clean towels as the ones in the room were dirty. The towels have seen better days too.|We contacted our holiday rep who tried to contact the hotel on our behalf who was also ignored.|In summary this is nowhere...
Read moreCentrally situated on the seafront promenade, everything to hand including shops, bars, restaurants and boat trips. Very glad we chose this hotel as some of the others are too close to the noisy music from the "party boats" that seem to gather in numbers on certain evenings. We had a top floor room with a lovely (very private) balcony complete with sun awning. Very comfortable room, possibly a bit lacking in storage for the 7 days we were there. Very helpful staff, apart from one extremely miserable and superior looking one in the bar area.|Only real niggle at the hotel was that the hot water took forever to run through, well over 10 minutes some mornings. Frustrating and very wasteful.|Ferry to Brac goes from directly opposite. We found Sumartin port a bit of a non-event but I guess you can catch buses to prettier parts.|Makarska has a real charm, with a feel of holidays several years ago but with all the modern add-ons. Lovely safe place, it's been while since I felt happy to put by bag on a restaurant terrace chair without feeling it was going to be snatched.|Gorgeous views around the waterfront and back to the very impressive mountain.|Certainly one to return to before the...
Read moreTerrible stay at Hotel Biokovo. We were there in August 2024 for 10 days. We were told there would be enough parking spaces and that we could park near the hotel. However, after a 10-hour journey and 1000 km, we found that there were no available parking spaces at all. We noticed that other hotel guests were also asking about parking, but were consistently told that all spaces were occupied. Upon arriving in our hotel room, we discovered that the room was dirty and 3 out of 7 lamps were broken. I had to ask for the lamps to be fixed at the reception every day, and it took 7 days for them to finally be repaired. Extremely poor service. One man at the reception didn’t even respond to my requests about the lamps and disrespectfully left the room during our conversation, telling me to take care of it myself. The one star goes to the lady at the reception who was occasionally there in the morning and eventually took care of the lamp issue. Overall, the stay was far too expensive, with no compensation for the problems, and poor treatment of guests. Absolutly no recommendation...
