I rarely, if ever, make reviews unless it’s a completely memorable experience. Today I felt compelled to write this review and it was indeed memorable, but unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. We were “greeted” at the restaurant by the most miserably grumpy waiter. It was a particularly hot day so I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Whist seated, we waited patiently for the menus. As the menus hadn’t arrived for some time, my son politely asked for the menus from the same waiter, at which point he lived up to his prior demeanour. He started his little rant, began to talk down to my son and explain at how we hadn’t waited for long at all and that we should “just wait”. To clarify, my son is a 19 year adult and not a young toddler.
The menu is comprehensive and looked appetising. My wife and I ordered the sea bass and my son, the pork dish. We decided before the food arrived that we would take away our food as the neighbouring tables were all smoking and there were no other tables available to us. It was also an extremely hot day, so we decided to enjoy our food in our hotel room. I asked the same waiter for the bill. Again, a simple task took an eternity to arrive and when I asked the waiter for the bill again, I was met with a wall of misery and anger.
Obviously we cannot expect the same quality of food taken away, compared to dine in. But we did consume the food within 5 mins of receiving it. The pork dish was well prepared. However the sea bass was possibly the saltiest dish I’ve ever eaten in my life and was almost inedible. Quite honestly, it was almost as though they had deliberately over seasoned the fish but I’d like to think that the chef just made an error. Each mouthful tasted like I was consuming a teaspoon of salt. My wife expressed the same sentiment. The bread accompanying the fish resembled the fossil remains from the Jurassic period. I almost broke a tooth trying to chew on it. I really don’t like making a big fuss, but when a meal costs over 90 Euros for 3 mains, you’d expect at least edible food to arrive. Honestly, I would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. There are lots of other restaurants in the area with more professional and happy staff, superior food, at a much more competitive price point. I have no doubt that some of the other positive reviews here are genuine and heartfelt. My experience however was possibly the worst I’ve ever had in over 40...
Read moreEarly experience was fairly positive. Pretty venue and charming. My son and I ordered the Ribeye steak for main course and when it arrived they were awful tough and chewy. (We're used to quality dining and food). I quickly got someone's attention and they agreed to swap for an alternative steak dish. (Not the same Ribeye, but offered Beef Steak instead?) we were told this would take 10 minutes and as we were hungry, we simply agreed. After 35 minutes, my wife and daughter had of course long finished their dishes, and we no longer had appetites, however, the Beef Steak finally arrived, which was perfectly average and uninteresting, partly as, of course, I had to wait so long. Fast forward 20 minutes, I was asked if I was happy, and I said it was OK, to which the waiter rolled his eyes. At this point, I wanted to leave and no longer be there, so I asked for the bill, to which they decided to charge me extra for the steak we did not want and never ordered!!! I told the waiter that was not cool as why should pay for the dish we didn't order and had to wait over an hour from original order?? The orginal bill came to €250 and I was begrudgingly offered a very insulting €10 cash discount. I gave the €10 back as I genuinely considered it as an insult.
So in summary: Tourist Trap! Very disappointing and unaprecciative! It ruined our lovely experience of Makarska
I never review, but this one I felt the need! Hopefully that should...
Read moreI don’t typically leave reviews but this place deserves one for being racist and terrible. First, we were sitting for 15 minutes before we had to stand to get our own menu. When the waiter (Luka or Lukas) served wine he said rudely and brusquely, can someone try this wine. We placed our food orders and we waited. This man comes back 45 minutes later saying he never sent the order in to the kitchen and that we need to tell him what it is again (doesn’t apologize, and is rude). We tell him out order and ask how long we will have to continue waiting to which he responded 10 minutes. We asked for our bottle of wine to be comped since we have been waiting for so long, we were told that’s up to the manager. At the same time, we noticed a party of non-white patrons sat down and were ignored for over 30 minutes without any server checking in and workers straight up ignoring them. They left soon after, visibly upset. Finally, we asked for the bill for just our 1 bottle of wine and water. This man goes into the back for 15 minutes, so we grab the drink menu to check the prices and leave the money owed in cash. Then this server AND manager told us WE were being rude bc we wanted to leave. I would NEVER recommend this racist terrible establishment to anyone. The atmosphere was extremely pretentious and unfriendly. If I could give 0...
