My family and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Wine and Restaurant Castellum, nestled in the picturesque town square of Makarska, Croatia. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance of this charming locale captivated us, blending seamlessly with the vibrant and historic atmosphere of the square. The service was impeccable. Attentive and courteous, the staff ensured our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish we ordered was a culinary masterpiece, artfully presented and bursting with flavors that paid homage to the rich culinary traditions of Croatia. The local wine selection, recommended by our server, perfectly complemented our meal, elevating our dining experience. A highlight of our visit was meeting the owner, a remarkable hostess whose warmth and hospitality were truly heartwarming. She spent considerable time sharing her passion for the restaurant and her insights about life in Croatia, which greatly enriched our understanding and appreciation of Croatian culture. As a family with a 16-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter, we found the restaurant to be wonderfully accommodating and engaging for all ages. The owner's genuine interest in our family's comfort and enjoyment made us feel particularly welcomed. In summary, Wine and Restaurant Castellum is not just a place to eat; it's a destination where fine cuisine, exceptional service, and heartfelt hospitality combine to create unforgettable memories. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Makarska, and eagerly look forward to our next visit. Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fantastic place with delicious food and superb service. We even went there twice on our short 3 nights stay in Makarska.❤️ The staff was very friendly and professional. An easy 10/10. They even removed one dish from our bill after I gave them my honest opinion about it. Which was a nice gesture and was totally unexpected from our side. Thank you for that! ❤️ The interior is beautiful! Music was very nice. And the view 😍 They've got large windows that go all the way down so you get that nice panoramic view of the sea. The food was lovely! I highly recommend trying the hot starter with spinach, scallops and truffle sauce. The best spinach combination i have ever tasted! About the dish that got removed from the bill - tuna medallion in sesame crust. The tuna itself was prepared beautifully, but the sesame crust tasted burnt which took away from the other flavours. Unfortunately . The gratinated strawberries were amazing! Very delicious 😍 Our next visit we went for the dishes we didn't choose the first time around. The duck breast was mouthwatering. The cherry sauce was 10/10. And the beef tartufatta tasted amazing! Overall, definitely worth a visit. ❤️ thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed ourselves! - The feedback I've got is just nitpicky and didn't really affect our stay. But to elevate the place even more I wish that the menu had a better layout instead of having one side with Croatian and the next in English I'd rather have an all Croatian part and an English part. One of the waiters who served food to our table smelled like cigarettes.

Ambling along the promenade of Makarska, absentmindedly peering at the menus of restaurants dotted along the coast, we felt uninspired. We hopped onto Google to see what else was around and suddenly a place with 5 stars out of 191 reviews (excluding mine) jumped out at us. How often do you see that!? Immediately we thought that this place was not going to be affordable but we were just interested to see the menu. The restaurant is situated in the heart of the Old Town and on approach we could see how lovely it looked. Again, our hearts dropped a little more at the impending reality of it being outside our price range. So imagine our surprise when we hungrily perused the menu and it was not very expensive at all! We eagerly followed Martin, our host, to our table. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed and Martin was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We ordered starters of bouillabaisse and chicken broth, mains of black risotto with cuttlefish and prawns, and octopus with veggies. For dessert we had the trio of ice cream and a brownie with white chocolate mousse. All the food was supported magnificently by the house white wine. I'm still dreaming about this experience. Everything was delectable, fresh, flavoursome and generous. If you have a chance to experience this place, do it!
