My family and I have just returned from 2 weeks at the Mayfair Hotel, 16 of us in total. We observed the following:
The hotel is set in pretty grounds that are well kept. Lots of sunbeds, but as others mentioned, you need to get up very early to ensure you have one - especially with a large party.
There are 2 main pools, the noisy hotel pool - that has lots of games and music all day, then the Gardens pool which is very pretty and generally less crowded. The kids play pool was generally very busy.
We all had very different types of rooms. Because I have difficulty walking well, I requested a ground floor. This was very handy for the noisy pool but it wasn't a refurbished room. It was very spacious, but a lot of the space was wasted. It was hard to dry anything that had gotten wet, and a little clothes horse would have been handy! (Lack of balcony was a pain!). It had a line of ants happily live in there - not bothering anyone, but more disturbing were the patches of black mould that had been painted over. On one day, maintenance went in our room (no warning, just appeared in there) fixing the air con units due to humidity. One air con unit dripped water onto the bed but worked very well (living room sofa bed), the other aircon unit barely worked (in the bedroom). They still didn't work properly after fixed.
The service is second to none at the Mayfair. George, the restaurant manager, was absolutely superb with my nieces Celiac daughter. Couldn't have asked for better. He deserves huge recognition. Panos, the waiter at the main bar - also absolutely amazing and deserves huge recognition. The reception staff were also all absolutely wonderful. Entertainment staff fantastic.
Now for the not so good:
This hotel would be a fantastic hotel, were it not for some of the people it attracts (not all, just some! Unpopular statement maybe). A lot of kids were left to run riot, were screaming the place down. They over ran the more adult pool. My daughter was kicked in the teeth, I had numerous kicks to the stomach and the coup de gras - the pool was closed off one afternoon, due to some kid pooping in it. It's like the parents just stopped parenting. One woman we saw, was so drunk that she couldn't walk or speak properly, but had 2 small children in tow, and was trying to tell us how horribly they were behaving! Quite an ironic statement.
On our first day, we went to the children's pool area, and on one of the benches a lady had changed her child's dirty nappy and left it on the table for someone else to clean up.
The food was ok, but a few of our group had upset stomachs that they still have. Kids were seen licking the ice cream scoops in the main restaurant. I saw them pick chips up with their fingers and put them back. If staff saw it happen, they immediately fixed it, but the parents just let them run wild.
One father was chucking a rugby ball across the pool, where adults were swimming/talking/sitting and splashing them - knowing that his boys were jumping into people to catch the ball. Infuriating that they don't have a sense of all playing nicely together.
All in all, I wouldn't stay there again - purely because of how rough some of the families were. Fantastic service, fantastic staff but just too many unruly kids for me.
Update: half the party had upset stomachs with further testing revealing that it was Cryptosporidium. The hotel admitted that they didn't know how to deal with this parasite in the water. I thought I had got away lightly with no stomach bug, but was struck down, 5 days after my return with severe Appendicitis. This can be caused by parasites and as a 50 year old female (Appendicitis is not common as a female at my age), I do not believe this is a coincidence. I still have not recovered properly. Hopefully, due to our emails, they've learnt how to clean their pool water properly. For this, I have to knock it...
Read moreWe were a couple here with all-inclusive in late August. We spent most of our time at the secondary pool near the Mayfair Gardens, so that's what I'll be referring to in this review. I've sectioned it into three categories: the good, the not so good, and some useful information.
The good: Lunch and dinner are both varied with unique daily themes at dinner, e.g. french or BBQ. Very good selection of drinks, we especially enjoyed their tequila sunrises. The staff is very friendly and professional. Special shutout to Suszette for remembering what we wanted and also brought us extra shots. It was generally very clean all over the hotel, and the room cleaning was thorough as well. There is an alarm on the room door that sounds if the door is not fully closed, we appreciated this feature. Lots of daily activities for both children and adults throughout the day. Evening entertainment was alright, not amazing but not bad either. There were bingo almost every night with prices of around 200€ when we were there. The A/C worked very well and kept the room nice and cool. The minimum temperature was 22C. The WiFi was very good most places, but it was a bit patchy around the pool. The mini market in the hotel has very reasonable prices, with sunscreen being similar in price to that in the mall. The staff handled a poopy pool situation very quickly and efficiently which was a plus. There was a complimentary water bottle in the room upon arrival.
The not so good: Breakfast did not change throughout, consisting mostly of English breakfast, which was dull. The food on the Italian themed night did NOT fall in our taste. Their soda is a bit hit and miss, sometimes it tastes decent, but a lot of times it tastes like sparkling water with drop of sirup. Their sunchair policy is absurd. You can reserve a sunchair by 0600 if you intend to use it before 1100, which leaves at least half of all sunchairs empty throughout the day, which is very annoying. Only one pre-pool shower was working. The pool flooring is loose. Some of the parasols were ridiculously difficult to open and secure. The grass area is very small despite it looking vast on the images on the website. It is also 50% dirt so you get muddy feet walking from the pool to the sunchair. The rooms are decent, except for the fact that they are NOT noise Isolated at all. You can almost hear a fly out in the corridor. You can hear everything from the corridor, from outside, even from other rooms. Very disappointed with this. The duvet available is also very weird, as it is just a duvet sandwiched between two sheets, so it sticks to you, falls apart, it is just uncomfortable. There was only body soap available in the bathroom, no shampoo or hand soap either. The location of the hotel is not amazing. It is in the middle of a very run-down area, although within walking distance (5 min) of a very large Kings Avenue Mall. There were no transport to the beach. 20 minute walk from the hotel to either the harbour (archeological park) or the tombs of the kings, which was awful in the summer heat, wouldn't recommend walking.
The useful: The pools are quite deep, which was a plus for us, but might be something to consider if you have small children. The kid’s water park is shallow, though. Be aware that the stone flooring around the resort gets extremely hot, so flip-flops are essential in the summer heat. We also noticed that while there was a TV in the room, it didn’t have any working channels, not that we missed it much. Lastly, we enjoyed a nice massage, although it was a bit odd being in the basement. It’s worth noting that the prices were slightly lower than what’s advertised on...
Read moreWe've just returned from a 1 week all inclusive stay here and we had a lovely time. I wasn't aware that the mayfair hotel and mayfair gardens residents all use the same facilities (pools, restaurant, bars) but the rooms in the hotel are obviously classed as 4 star compared to perhaps slightly more basic garden apartments classed as 3 star. I would have quite happily stayed in either.
Our room in the hotel was lovely, nice large bed and all very clean (make sure you put the sign on your door if you don't want an early visit from the cleaners!). You didn't get much privacy in the bathroom as there's just a glass sliding door, so not great but it was manageable. The cleaners didn't seem to replenish anything in the room, so we had to ask for more shower gels and long life milk on occasion.
The location is great, about 10-15 minute walk to the harbour and beach areas. We also got the 615 bus (€1.50 each, each way) to Coral Bay which is well worth a visit. About 20 minutes away. There's a supermarket nearby in the Mall should you need it.
The Jet2 rep was there nearly every day and was very helpful. We booked onto a trip with her to visit Troodos but unfortunately they had to cancel due to low numbers - apparently not many people want to do excursions! Because of this we hired a car for the day instead, cost us less than the trip and we saw a lot more so would definitely recommend it (we used NCK car hire, just passed the mall - €60 for the day plus petrol).
The food was brilliant, I don't know how people can say there wasn't much choice, there was loads to choose from. They always have lots of salad choices and there's a different theme each day so you get a bit of a mix to choose from. Plus there's the usual chips, pizza, chicken nugget rubbish. Yes you occasionally had to wait for a table but not long at all. My only minor complaint would be with the sandwiches they give you if you're intending to go out for the day. All you got was a pretty poor ham and cheese sandwich, on fairly stale white bread, with not much ham or cheese in it! They could have at least provided a snack (crisps) and a small bottle of water. It was the same we got on arrival. I think this could be improved, for a 4 star hotel that's not great.
The all inclusive drinks were ok. Unfortunately it doesn't include Keo which my boyfriend was a little unhappy about! The cocktails were ok, just basic sugary concoctions of vodka, whisky and different coloured juices. Lots of choice though.
The staff were brilliant, could not fault any of them. All really friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to help. How the entertainment staff put up with having to do Baby Shark every night I'll never know!
I was a bit unsure about staying in a family hotel during the Easter holidays as a couple with no children, but I actually found it ok. There seemed to be more little ones towards the end of the holiday, and yes it was a little frustrating watching some of them being kept up late and therefore creating because they were so tired - but I figured being in an adults only hotel can often be worse than dealing with some screaming kids! The kids mini disco was on each night from around 8.30-9pm, followed by other entertainment and music. It went on each night until around 11pm so don't intend to sleep before then as it's very loud! It was a bit hit and miss but as they've only just started their season this may improve with time.
Overall the hotel was a lovely place to stay and provided pretty much everything we wanted and needed. I'm not sure I'd stay in peak times but for us it...
