Karibo — Hotel in Higüey

I recently stayed at a Karibo and let me tell you, it was a nightmare from start to finish. The receptionists, if you could even call them that, were the most unhelpful and incompetent people I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry!!

First of all, they were completely unresponsive to emails. I emailed them multiple times before my arrival, with questions and special requests, and I didn't receive a single reply. It's as if they don't even check their emails or care about their guests' needs.

But the real nightmare began when I arrived at the hotel. I was greeted by Barbara, the most rude and unprofessional receptionist I have ever come across. She couldn't be bothered to give me a warm welcome or even a basic greeting. When I asked about the water leak in my room, she rolled her eyes and told me to deal with it myself.

That brings me to another point - the numerous issues with the hotel. Not only did I have to deal with a water leak, but also a broken TV and a non-functioning air conditioner. And do you think the receptionists did anything about it? Of course not. They were too busy gossiping and ignoring the needs of their guests.

But the cherry on top of this terrible stay was Barbara's husband, Javi. He was just as useless and rude as his wife. Every time I asked for assistance, he would just shrug and say there was nothing he could do. Customer service? More like customer disservice.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if these two were secretly trying to sabotage the hotel. They certainly did a great job of ruining my stay. We came here as an emergency as we had to arrive one day earlier before going to our resort in punta cana. I was blown away by the affordability and the comfort of this place. I reserved for one of the apartments and it almost felt like I was living in my own apartment. It was beautifully decorated with modern furniture, it had an Ac in the living room and the bedroom. A beautiful terrace with garden and jacuzzi, a kitchen and washing machine. What more can you ask for? The only reason why I didnt give them 5 stars is because after 10 pm they close the lobby and if you want to drink or eat something basically your on your own. I would have loved to have a vending machine nearby at that time since I was extremely thirsty. Other than that, the place is very comfy, quiet, beautiful , great pool and friendly staff. They have security protecting the hotel from the outside grounds and it is in a gated place. The food is average but not bad at all. I had the spaghetti with shrimp in white sauce and it was good ! Had to stay here unfortunately due to a timeshare promo. Staff was never working, lady manager always had a justification for our complaints. Hot water is non existent there, water actually shut off at 10pm and didn't turn back on until after 9am on day. Bar girl inside the lobby very rude, we asked for her to call the manager who had vanished for over 40 minutes and she said she didn't have a number to call her at. Free breakfast? Never. You have to go ask the same unhelpful bar lady for food and she would go and hide in the kitchen so no one would bother her. Then, the TV sucks, bad service, one day it wasn't even working, had to call the non existent staff again! Had to ask for towels because they wouldn't replace the ones in the room during room cleaning. Bathroom shower was super dirty with dirt streaks down the tub, GROSS. You get what you pay for.
