I am an American, fluent in Spanish who has been either living in or visiting the Dominican Republic for 43 years. I import hand-made rocking chairs. Very many of the reviews for the Garant are excellent, but keep in mind that this is a 2½ star hotel and it is being rated in that context. I rated the Garant as excellent in overall experience, hotel service, hotel condition, room cleanliness and room comfort. There is a clean, small pool, but we never saw anyone using it. There are also a couple of exercise machines.
The Garant is a no frills hotel. It offers very little in the way of services. The rooms did have new 32" flat screen TVs. Many international cable channels were available.
The neighborhood I rated as 2 out of 5. If you leave out the middle and upper classes, it is very typical Dominican neighborhood. It is a bit dirty, broken sidewalks, etc. My sister accompanpied me on this trip and we never felt in danger or afraid. Pretty much all of Boca Chica is the same. Boca Chica a a beach for the common person in the D.R. But if you like a beach with sand as fine as sugar and as calm as a swinning pool (and I do), Boca Chica is super.
The hotel restuarant only serves a limited breakfast. There are good restantants on the water like Neptuno's and the Boca Marina that are within walking or short taxi distance.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and large with a standard size refrigerator in each room. The bath is a separate room. I have usually three minimum requirements for a Dominican hotel, clean, air conditioning and hot water. The Garant failed in one of these-air conditioning. Our rooms were not air conditioned, but the hotel does have other rooms with it. The water temperature in the shower varied, but always was warm enough and it was often so hot that I had to add some of the cold water. Now about the air conditioning: Every other hotel room that I have stayed in while in the D.R., the first thing I do when returning to my room is turn on the air conditioning, however it really was not necessary. We both used the fan set on the 2nd speed of 5 possible. It was fine with out air conditioning. I was quite surprised! The country is so humid I don't actually understand why the fan was enough, but it was.
The hotel was hard to find because many locals don't know it. We did do the Saona Island tour (just fabulous) and the tour operator knew it well. Here are some directions to find the hotel easily. (If you get lost, ask where the Hotel Hamaca is and you are no more than 600-700 feet {200-230 meters} away.)If you are renting a car at Las Americas airport, turn right when you get out to thehighway RD3. There are on the highway two Shell gas stations, both on the right side. At the second Shell station turn right. There is a Burger King beside the Shell on the same side of the street. At the fifth intersection turn right. There a white palace on the left that occupies half of the first block then on the right side of the street in the second block is a school surrounded by a wall. Turn left onto Calle Sanchez across from the middle of the school property. It is the second building on the left in the middle...
Read moreThis place is awesome in all aspects: location, value, and quality of service. As two single women on a quick getaway from the cold, we could not be happier with our time here at Hotel Garant.|||| Lot of reviews from the men saying women might not be comfortable here. The fact is, Yes, the prostitution in the country is a part of life for some; but, if you mind your business and worry about what YOU are there for (for me it’s the sun, sand and azure blue Caribbean water, great Fried Fish) this a great place to unwind, not far from Las Americas Airport, and just a couple of short blocks away from a fantastic beachfront with plenty of activities.||||With Spacious, and more importantly, clean rooms, great coffee and breakfasts to start the day, Mathieu and his entire staff do everything they can to ensure you make the most of your time in Boca Chica. I’m definitely coming...
Read moreThis hotel is very well maintained, clean, hot water and great professional staff. They treat you like family. The owner lives on the property. I would have given a five star, if not for the internet, but it is beyond their control. No elevators, however it is an older property. The price is very reasonable, it's a small hotel, so you will receive prompt individual service. Very close to the beach, like two blocks and you can walk, without the noise and hustle and bustle of all the nuances of the tourists and vendors. It very close to transportation. It is a small very well maintained property and I will definitely recommend and stay there again. Tell them I recommend it or better yet get back with me and I will be happy to help you book your next...
