The Boat House — Restaurant in La Hispaniola

I have been to the Boathouse 4 times in my last 9 trips to Boca Chica. I am planning my fifth trip there in May 2018. Lawrence and his staff are awesome. That comment about Lawrence is especially special as he is a Kiwi (From New Zealand), and I'm Australian (Aussie), and you have to come from our countries to understand that dig in the ribs! LOL. Lawrence has the best staff you will ever encounter and many of the chicas have worked for him for many years. He looks after his staff and more importantly, his customers. The atmosphere is very family orientated and there are many American, Canadian, European and Australian (Me only so far! lol!) people who enjoy the Boathouse. The food is brilliant and affordable, and the service is first class in my humble opinion. The rooms are clean and tidy and air-conditioned. The music is to die for especially if you love the music of the late 1960s and the1970s........classic rock is constantly playing! A comment was made about the noise level until 4:00am.........fair comment..........but this is the party town people!!! The Boat house has a nice location close to the water which is in the shade.

We arrived for breakfast around 8.30am honestly it wasn't that busy and the breakfast menu has a limited selection.

The service was very slow and impolite. Overall it took almost 1h to get some eggs, sausage and mashed plantain as well as some cut veggies. Moreover to the long wait which was an annoyance, I was also brought a wrong order. By that point in time I was just happy to finally get something and as it was in front of me I thought it was mine. Not only did they not apologise for their mistake they were annoyed by it. Instead of also just letting me have the toast they brought, they took it away because I didn't order it, and threw it away as clearly they wouldn't give it to someone else. That's jsut bad service. In addition, they also forgot our juice and confused that we ordered two. Other guests who ordered after us got their food quicker.

I'm rating the restaurant and not the rooms. I use to love this place and I actually have given it great reviews a couple of years ago on TripAdvisor. I just went 2 nights in row since I'm in town. Worst bartender I have ever seen. She doesn't serve you. She makes mixes and juices and completely ignores you. She looks at you and does not come over. I had to ask if she was the bartender. Two nights in a row. The food here was always good. I had the worst cheese sticks I have ever had and the next night I got a cold pizza. I just asked them to put it back in the oven to heat it up. They don't have a pizza oven. They don't even have an oven Just a microwave. The pizza is not even made there. It's delivered. That's why it was cold. I just requested my bill and of course, the incompetent bartender did not charge me correctly. My days of visiting this...
