I am now in Southamerica for 2 years and this was the worst Hostal I had! We paid 16 USD for a dirty room, we did not get towels, they gave us one toilet paper roll for the whole time, there was mauld on the wall, in the bathroom there was a carpet floor, I do not want to know how many bacterias there were and I am sure they never wash it. In the 4 days we stayed there noone ever cleaned the room! The guy who is working there ( a guy with almost always wearing a cap and glasses ) was unfriendly, did not explain anything, told us wrong adresses of Restaurants and the Zoo! His wife did not even know that there is a Zoo in town! 2 days we had cold water! One day I left the Hotel at 11am!!! and the guy was still sleeping, when I came back there was no gas in the kitchen to cook (beside that the kitchen looked like that there was a war going on the day before) and he did not fix the shower problem! It would be better if he gets up earlier and orders gas and fixes the shower! The room was really loud and we had no curtains. There was no guest in the Hostal but I only had permission to use the Internet 30 minutes, the rest of the time he was sitting there or his unfriendly wife! Once I asked if he can start up the Computer and he told me that he does not know the password , only the Boss, when I came back 20 minutes later (he thought we are gone the whole day but there was no bus) suddenly he was sitting there using it, I do not think the Boss whithin 20 minutes and left again! By the way I only saw the Boss once and I do not think that he does not give the password to his staff. DO NOT GO THERE! ITS ASHAME HOW THEY DEAL...
Read moreDescribed in the Footprint 2011 as a friendly, familial hostel, we were disappointed to meet an unfriendly owner, who didn't even say hi. At night he and his friends were partying until 4am as loud as it wasn't possible to sleep even with earplugs! Asked to be more quiet, the answer was "no, we are in south america". The next day we left and as we didn't want to pay for the last night because we couldn't sleep the owner locked us in until we paid!||By the way: This door was the only emergency exit and was locked all the time. We had to ring the bell to get out of the hostel which took up to 10 minutes - long enough to miss our bus. Don't stay at...
Read moreThe Hostal Pachamama was a good value for the price. The hostel is family owned, and offers multiple rooms. I stayed in a private room, which had a large bed, but the room felt damp the whole time, with an odor of cheap cleaner. The blankets and carpeting also felt kind of damp. The hostel was full of partying Argentines and musician backpacker types, so be prepared to be woken at 4 AM when they came back from the bars! The best thing about Pachamama Lodge was the price. You cannot beat it. Also, everything in Cuenca is walkable from the hotel. I even walked to/from...
