This historic mansion was built in the center of Cuenca in the 1910's. It was originally owned by a renowned Cuenca writer, jurist, and academic from which the museum gets its name.

Entering from Calle Larga, we were asked to register at the front entrance with either a phone number, passport number or cedula. A brochure is available for information in English. Entry is free.

You can walk through several rooms to view the houses's original furniture and decor, records, paintings, archeological artifacts, and museum garden. Elevator may be used on request. There is also a nice cafe in back overlooking the river.

I might not call this a "must see" place but it is well done and has some interesting history if you have extra time in Cuenca.

Great museum! I hear he was a famous lawyer and poet who had a penchant for helping out the poor pro-Bono.The admission is free and the staff is very helpful. Nicely curated exhibits include time pieces (wardrobe), furniture and letters which is pretty neat. Closed on Monday’s and sundays. Nice cafe on the outside overlooking the river which is great to go to after the museum and have a cocktail or some lunch. It also supports keeping the museum open, Maintained and free...

Algo de historia...

Durante el Período Precerámico (10000 a. C.-3500 a.

C.-500 a. C.) aparece la Cultura Cerro Narrío (2000 a. C.-500 a.

A very beautiful mansion on the river with a nice collection of history of Cuenca. The architecture and interior design is stunning. The exhibits are not overwhelming and one can see everything within 35-45 minutes. The museum also has a cafe with a beautiful view of the river. The only downside is that there are several levels only accessible by stairs and no elevators. Overall a great place to visit.
