UPDATE DEC 2023
A FOODIE’S GEM: VERY AUTHENTIC SHAANXI (Qin) CHINESE CUISINE.🤩🤩🤩. Cuenca’s best Chinese restaurant!!!
Having just returned from a trip to China two months ago, it’s really precious to be back in Cuenca EC and re-awaken my palate with NW Chinese cuisine, an uncommonly encountered regional cuisines from an ancient civilization 👍👍👍👍👍.
True to its name, Lamian noodles are king here. Any of Lamian entrees are terrific, whether the soup or dry sautéed variety.👏👏👏
They make the noodles in house!!!
The other outstanding entrees are their Salteados or Sautés. Vegetarian or with meat/seafood… it’s outstanding🤩🤩🤩.
The restaurant ambience is superb!

A FOODIE’S FIND: SORPRENDENTE AUTÉNTICA ESPECIALIDAD DE LAMÍAN YOUPO CON ESOS EXQUISITOS Y SUTILES SABORES Y TEXTURAS CHINAS😎😎😎. I can’t quite put my finger (palate) to the regional Chinese cuisines I’m familiar of, but the menu states Lamían Youpo indicating the featured cuisine here is Shaanxi (Xi’an) NW Chinese cuisine🤩🤩🤩. LUCKY CUENCA.
What’s great about the menu is it’s short, not the very long list so common in the Americas and EU where many serve greasy unhealthy salty sugary food lamentably categorized as chinese-style. Also none of those horrid deep fried starters.—SO DIVE IN TO EXPLORE THE MENU👌👌👌.
Here, food are prepared to order. The Lamían (hand-torn or hand-pulled noodles) is superbly textured and light, not starchy. It’s got that distinctive subtle chili oil flavor (No not hot chilies) characteristic of Youpo 😊😊😊.
Any of the Lamían choices are great. I was partial to Lamían Youpo Camarón, the prawns are scrumptiously crisp🤩🤩🤩.
The dumplings have the classic Cantonese features: thin dough, the filling seasoned with traditional spices and chives.👏👏👏
Then there’s the vegetables, sautéed yet crisp with balanced seasoning. The Salteado de Hongo (Woodear Mushrooms sauté) is fantastic.😎😎😎
The restaurant itself has the ambience for great dining.

Read moreLamían China is a great new culinary experience here in Cuenca Ecuador. There are several so called Chinese restaurants here called Chifa’s in the local language but none come close to tasting anything like Chinese food served elsewhere in the world. Lamían China now offers the real thing specializing in one of China’s most renowned dishes, the hand pulled noodles called Lamían. Here you can get them in chicken broth, with vegetables or with sautéed chicken and fried chilies and imported black fungus. Competing with the lamían are the wonderful dumplings served steamed, in broth or fried as pot stickers. The talented chef has other delicious specials on the menu including vegetarian but it is hard to go here and not eat your fill of dumplings and noodles. The chef, his wife and daughter came to Ecuador in 2021 from Xian, China. They are located on Florencia Astudillo S/N across from the Planetarium. They are closed on Tuesdays. Open for lunch and dinner. My wife and I have enjoyed the delicious food at Lamían China at least 10 times during the past few months. W. Lee and...
Read moreAlison and David's first time to Lamian China. Great time. We were first in the restaurant and order before anyone else came in. Then a large party came after us and they ordered after us and got served before us.. Strange. Our order came 45 minutes after we ordered. The large party got there order in 10 minutes. The food was excellent when we got it. The only complaint I have with the food was the Cabbage soup. It had a "burned" taste in the back ground. Hopefully we will not be left out because of a large party next time. Being an Ex Chef and an owner of a Cafe in northern Atlanta GA, I have always had my servers have the food come out as it's handed to the kitchen. Looking forward to dining there again.
The owner of the restaurant replied to me. This makes more sense now about the advance orders on takeaway and the large party was an advance order.. Yes, please have the server explain this going forward. We look forward to dining there again...
