We are retired world travelers on a budget. We rate budget hotels. We will accept a few flaws in these hotels in exchange for low rates.||||We stayed at Hostel Perla Real Inn for one night while waiting for our flight to Lima. The hostel is very conveniently located about a mile from the airport. Taxi's are readily available. Check-in went smoothly. The rooms had private bath, were pleasantly furnished, clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very helpful, letting us print our boarding passes using their computer. Breakfast was better than average with eggs, juice, coffee, bread and cheese. There is a pool on the premise for any interested to enjoy.||||Our flight left in the middle of the afternoon but the owner was nice enough to allow us to stay in our room past check-out time until our flight departure. This is very unusual for a hotel and shows the special treatment that the owner can offer to his guests.||||There is a large mall about a quarter mile away that has one of the largest food courts I've seen. Most of the stalls are serving local foods at very reasonable prices. There are the usual international chains there too. BK, KFC MacD etc. It's well worth the walk if you are hungry and want to try some new tastes from...
Read moreFor the price, you really can't expect perfection. But, this was my experience:||||Positives:||- I specifically asked for a room in the back due to all the reviews that complained about the traffic noise in the front rooms. I'm glad I did.||- My room was larger than the norm, with an equally larger-than-norm bathroom.||- Bathtub versus shower-only. Soap and shampoo included. Nice towels.||- Very comfortable bed||- AC in room worked great||- Good WiFi connection||- LOTS of TV cable channels||- Location....5 block walk to Mall del Sol and very close to Airport ($3 taxi)||- Pool to cool off in.||||Negatives:||- No breakfast served (supposedly 'she' had an emergency. What...there's only ONE person to handle breakfast? No backup?||- Jacuuzi in patio didn't work||- Shower was only timidly warm||- Evening staff wasn't very friendly compared to daytime staff. The guy who serviced the rooms looked like he was miserable, never smiled when talked to.||- Front door was always locked with a key which meant the desk staff had to jump up every time to let you in/out.||- Furniture functional, but out-dated, and in my case the sofa was...
Read moreI stayed here one night before catching a flight next day to the Galapagos. The reason I choose this place was it was less expensive and really close to the airport. The choice was good as far as these two parameters went; but having no hot water in a hostel in the second biggest city in Ecuador was kind of not acceptable for me. I had to take a shower with water in room temperature and was kind of freezing since the weather was not really hot outside.||||Al in all, the room was clean and the hostel delivered what it promised for the price. Of course, except for the hot water. One addition is that the noise level is very high if you get a room facing the road plus they have two birds in a cage in the first floor and they can get really loud waking you up really early in...
