BAD: 1st) I want to mention 3 thefts that supposedly occurred in the 2.5 weeks I was there. ||1) My Samsung s7 cell was taken from my room. Since it is not functioning the phone remained in a watertight box that I store a lot of my electronics in. Essentially it never leaves the box because I have no need for it except to return it for insurance when I got back to my country. I went camping for 2 days, and when I returned to my room I noticed it was gone. It's possible that another guest entered my room during 5 minutes or less I was using the bathroom, but I strongly suspect the staff. I believe it was taken from my locked room.||2) $30 cash stolen from the backpack of a girl in the dorms.||3)+300||USD taken from a locked room. The victim claims his money was very well hidden, and also suspects the staff,.||The staff essentially refused to contact the police, claiming that because it was under $500 the police could do nothing. It's not a large hostel and it's very open, so if you were a guest it would be not be easy to enter someone else's room without being noticed. But for a small group of staff working together, this would be simple to do.||||While it was cheap, centralized, and had strong Wi-Fi, I ended up paying a lot more in the long run. I regret not filing a police report. Also want to point out that my room was totally concrete and the beds mediocre at best, unlike what I see...
Read moreI came across this hostel after asking the tourist office about guided walks. They recommended I go see Angel at Valle Sagrado.||||When I got there, I looked around the place and my first impression was ¨this is low budget if ever I´ve seen it¨, but it had a great atmosphere - very chilled - and the owners were so endearing that I ended up hanging around all afternoon!||||I speak Spanish fairly well, so I was able to have a great chat with Angel, who is a local and is running the hostel with his wife Maria. He was able to arrange an all day hike for me at very short notice, including lunch and water, for the next day.||||I ended up changing accommodation from Ruinas de Quinara to this place. I´m in a mixed dorm, the bed is clean and very comfy, and there is enough space to lay out my stuff.||||Cleanliness of the bathroom and the floors in general is not up there, but you kinda have to expect some disappointment when you´re paying $7 a night in Ecuador.||||Beers are cheap, and they offer food all day from what I´ve seen. Juices are delicious and fresh, I´m sipping on a mora juice as I type.||||Free WiFi is a bonus!!||||The owners plan to make more improvements, they´ve only been running the place for 5 months. So far they´ve expanded the patio with an awning so even in the winter rain you can still enjoy the lush garden.||||Oh! You can...
Read moreArriving late from the Peru border we checked into the first place that had vacancy. ||Valle Sagrado is right off the main street (noisy) with rooms set around in a green courtyard. Only rooms with shared bath were available when we checked in. Our room ($6/person) was the one next to what once must have been their massage place.||||The room was extremely simple with an extremely rough bare concrete floor and walls that had peeling paint. There was a big panel missing in the ceiling exposing the view to the roof.||||The highlight of the room was the bed sheets, the softest and most comfortable we've had in months. The mattress was pretty good too.||||There shared bath/shower is very basic but at least has tiles on the floor in the shower section, rest is also bare concrete. Stepping out of the tiled section of shower is very dangerous as the wet tiles are extremely slippery. The electric hot shower had just enough water pressure to get the job done.||||So, if you just want a cheap place to have a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed and don't mind a room that looks like a prison cell, then Valle Sagrado may be a good choice. ||They apparently do have better rooms but they were full. ||We left after one night to Hotel "Rendez Vous" which at $10/person offers a much nicer room and setting and...
