Movenpick El Gouna Experience!!
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND DO NOT GO THERE!! WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!
The price is higher than all inclusive resorts and it is based on US dollars (I even paid the full amount at reservation to get a discount because how high it was compared to other resorts) so I thought it would be an upgrade from the hotel we stayed at in Hurghada. My expectation was to have a nicer hotel, less crowded, better rooms, better food since we pay for it as opposed to all inclusive where the quality doesn’t matter much, better service, better beach, better anything?? Here is the breakdown;
The hotel is OLD. Only ONE electric outlet that fits the US chargers and you have to ask for adapters if you are like most people who have more than one phone per room. The water pressure in the shower is like a rain drizzle and I’m not sure if it is related to the amount of people using it at a time? We have another family with us and their room ceiling started leaking. We have exposed wires at our room (see pictures) We were told at the reception that we have a floor level despite the fact that we requested a higher level at reservation and that these rooms are nice and they have a direct access to the beach. One of the keys to the room wasn’t working and the bellman called the receptionist to exchange it and promised us it will be sent to the room but that never happened. We checked in yesterday at 3:30 pm and yet we still haven’t received the replacement key. P.S you have to insert the card quickly MULTIPLE times to get it to work (this is the working card) as opposed to wireless access like the resort we just left and were thinking it would be better at Elgouna since we paid more. The bellman asked if we need an extra bed and we said yes and again we haven’t received the imaginary bed yet The bathroom door is a slide door and no lock so if you have a child with you, please find another room to take a shower or hire a babysitter for your child to prevent them from walking in on you while you are naked. We had a couple of towels with black stains (see pictures) The curtains don’t close all the way so if you are NOT a heavy sleeper, you will wake up with sunrise. The outlet door to the beach squeaks really bad and you have to fight with the door to close it. I told my wife “ no problem maybe the beach will be good. It looks nice”. FAIR WARNING; if you don’t have swimming foot ware, DO NOT go on the beach. Rocks everywhere and if you want to swim, you have to walk half a mile then cross the line to be able to have a deep area to swim otherwise you will be having water at your knee level. We said, okay let’s try the pool. It is small and very crowded and you will be lucky if you find a seat, mind you , AT 6 PM when everyone is supposed to be out. So I woke up early today to reserve a seat for us. Then I told my wife “ Okay, let’s try dinner at the buffet and see if we can find good food”. Guess what? It was very crowded, people were fighting over meat in the soup, and juice is an extra charge (not cheap) and I thought it would be nice and fresh but it was almost water. We then looked for entertainment and NO SIGNS!!! You really have to have a location sent to you and follow with google maps, otherwise you will get lost. People were giving us directions and it never works without signs so you just follow the sound and light. At breakfast, do NOT sit outside to escape the crowd inside. Birds will devour your food and NO FANS AVAILABLE. Freshly baked Bread had hair in it and we reported it Mr. Adham who was serving our table outside. The waterpolo game is NOT for females. It is a fight between guys. My wife wants to play but...

Uber drivers always wanted double the fare set by Uber to take you to El Gouna from Hurghada airport so we cancelled and joined another family took a van Taxi for 700 EGP for a group of 5 with all our luggage and a friendly driver. Our hotel offered 500 EGP ride per room, Uber driver wanted 600 EGP ( Uber App quoted 299 EGP) 2- Check-in was a bit slow but we were at our room 35 minutes later 3- Our room had a malfunction entry door mechanism after we were ready to go out for dinner so we had the inconvenience to repack and change room 4-Rooms have AC, clean, large bathroom and watch out, it is 220 v electric outlets in Egypt, the safe batteries needed to be changed to function so I waited 15 minutes for that task as well. 5- The resort is large and has so many buildings and not easily marked so be prepared to get lost or call reception for a free ride 6- The property is well maintained with beautiful flower beds and nice clean walkways 7- They provide for free beach towels, chairs and umbrellas at the beach and if you don’t need salespersons to bother you hang a provided sing on the umbrella 8- Beautiful beach, but the Red Sea water at this location is not the best, sand is dark but clean and beach area is well set. They have several large swimming pools but we always used the one right at the beach. 9- We tried the buffet for breakfast and dinner and it was awesome food large variety of authentic Egyptian food try the falafel and Foul (beans) for breakfast, large variety of cheese and salads, fast and efficient egg counter, self service coffee tea and juices and everyone is helping you with a great smile A la cart restaurants are extra but we didn’t need to try them, food was great at the buffet 10- Room service was efficient and on time 11- Early March weather was not hotter than 23 daytime and fairly cool at nights, take a sweater to enjoy the nightly free entertainment near the lobby area 12- We enjoyed the nightly entertainment and we danced and stayed late having beer and coffee (alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages are not included in your package) 13- Count on long walks but carts are available for free rides, not too many elevators to higher floor so if going upstairs is not for you, insist on ground level room at check in 14- Parking is available for free near the lobby area, also taxi, toktok (a cart attached to a scooter ) and Uber are available easily 15- A Marina and shopping areas are nearby 16- We booked one day excursion to Mahmya Island 40 minutes by boat from Hurghada in the Red Sea for CND $60 per person (plus a 40 min taxi ride to Hurghada from El Gouna not included) including buffet and one soft drink and speedboat ride, a Caribbean style island with white sand beaches and clear blue water and heavenly scenes everywhere you go they provide beach towels and beach chairs. Snorkelling and diving are available for extra, I would highly recommend this trip it is worth the money we paid, a trip very well managed. 17- The entire area is safe and no need to worry if you go outside the resort and people are friendly and helpful everywhere 18- Check-out was fast and taxis are available to take you back to the Hurghada airport 19- I would for sure visit El Gouna and Hurghada on our next trip to Egypt, Hurghada has marvelous white sandy beaches and more resorts...
Read moreI, Emil Salayta, from Jordan, together with tow friends arrived to the Movenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna on Sunday the 17th of August, 2025. We got a Suite with a connected room by the pool and sea with Suite number 5111 and room number 5112 and our reservation is until Thursday August 21, 2025.||Our Stay was perfect and we did enjoy so much our stay. During our stay I went to the Spa twice, On Monday the 18th and today Wednesday the 20th.||My Experience at the Spa was professional and very satisfying until I found out today right after my package that 200 $ were taken from my wallet!!!! I did use the locker in the Spa, but the key was not on me all the time due to treatment sessions, it was on the beds around the services.... once I discovered that I was stolen at the Spa, I went back to check my money, and told the staff at the Spa that also on Monday I lost $ 100 after the Treatment, but actually it was also $ 200 !!! So at the Spa in the Movenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna I got stollen twice each time $ 200 and as a total $ 400 in three days!||We went up to the Front Desk, and they said they will check out, their stand and position was not accepted to me, for they said that the Spa has it own separate Entity and they checked and that there was no irregularities or indications !!!!||For me it is oblivious that I got stolen by insiders of the Spa, I did check on my wallet minutes before getting in and I had $ 400 in my wallet, I paid by Visa card, for they said they had no change for a $ 100 bill, so I put it back and used the Visa Card. So $ 200 were taken and right after my session I checked for I had doubts, and found out that money was taken, and therefore the same happened on Monday, for sure it was the Spa!!!!||The management of the Resort can't pretend not to have any responsibilities, even if the Spa on their ground has it's own Entity!!!!! The Movenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna should take this seriously, otherwise how can we trust the Resort?????||How many other innocent people were stolen like me on Monday and didn't figure it out, or started to doubts people around concierge or others??? Not even being sure if they were stolen or not???? ||For me at the end it is not the money but the deception of the experience as all!!! I had a perfect experience with my friends here, but today at 1.00 pm I felt so bad, deceived by the sure fact of the robbery, loosing trust in the Resort, and with added deception; the attitude of the front desk, after four hours or more Mr. Khaled called our room and invited us to the Reception, to sit and to say that there was no indications or irregularities after checking with the Spa!!!!!||We as visitors, travelling, our weak point is that we are leaving, so to file a police complain and not around to follow is a dead case!!! I do expect the Resort where I'm staying to take care of me and secure my stay and guarantee my rights!!!||I urge visitors to be careful!! Workers here are Extra polite, simple and honest, I respect them all, and care for them all, but some did not show decency like at the Spa, not all of them, but for sure some of them stealing while treating visitors to the spa!!! Again I urge you to be careful!!!, if you need Spa treatment don't take your money on you, or you wallet, or valuable things!!!! Be careful for with the policy of the Resort and staff, you can do nothing but leave with Great...
