Disappointing Experience at Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna – Unreasonable Charges & Poor Service I recently stayed at Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna and, unfortunately, had a disappointing experience that negatively impacted our trip. On the second day, my 5-year-old accidentally broke a small mirror in our room. While I completely understand that accidents happen and may incur costs, the way the hotel handled the situation was far from professional. We were not informed about any issue during the rest of our stay — no communication from housekeeping or management. However, at checkout, I was suddenly told I had to pay 2,500 EGP for the mirror. For a hotel that markets itself as 5-star, this was shocking. The damage was limited to one side of the glass — the frame was intact — something that could have easily been repaired by their maintenance team. I raised my concerns with the receptionist, Sameh, and expressed that the charge was excessive and unfair. He refused to reconsider and simply issued a receipt. What made this worse was witnessing other guests break items like plates and cups in public areas without any repercussions. This inconsistency raises serious concerns about the hotel’s fairness and transparency. As someone who frequently travels and stays in 5-star hotels globally, I’ve never encountered such a rigid and impersonal approach. A truly professional hotel — especially one under the Steigenberger brand — should show more empathy and fairness, particularly toward families with young children. Because of this experience, I will not return to this hotel or any other under the Steigenberger name. I do not recommend this hotel, especially for families expecting a welcoming and professional hospitality experience.

Very Disappointing Stay – Would Not Recommend Our stay at Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna was truly disappointing and a complete waste of money. We were two couples with a baby, staying for just one night — but it was more than enough to decide we’ll never return or recommend any hotel under this chain again. • Arrival: No bellman was available to help with luggage upon arrival. We had to wait nearly 5 minutes until someone showed up. • Rooms: Dusty surfaces, a wall gecko on the dresser, and delayed housekeeping response (over 30 minutes). Our friends found hair in the shower and a broken AC. They were only offered a new room at 2 AM despite having a baby. • Food: One of the worst dining experiences in any supposed 5-star hotel. Poor quality, tasteless food, and unprofessional staff. • Follow-up Stay: After sharing our experience, a manager called to apologize and offered a discounted, upgraded stay. We appreciated the gesture and gave it another chance. Unfortunately, it was no better — food still bad, staff unfriendly, and basic issues like non-working room keys and AC problems happened again. • Service: Staff across the hotel, including reception and restaurant, were rude, unprofessional, and showed zero hospitality. Even simple requests like a cup of ice were met with visible annoyance. Summary: • Rooms: Acceptable, but cleaning standards need work • Food: Very poor, not up to 5-star standards • Staff: Untrained, unfriendly, and not service-oriented • Reception: Unprofessional handling • Location: Beautiful, but the hotel is badly managed Conclusion: The hotel’s location deserves better management and service. I do not recommend this hotel and will avoid this chain entirely in the future.

During this time they said I could lay down/rest in the bar area, he turned the lights low and let me rest for a while. Later, i asked if I could go to the gym and they gave me access hours before the official opening time. By surprise they were able to sort me an early check-in! Management rang me later in the day to ask for a meeting. We met and he apologized for the lack of communication and fixed the call lines/email and wished me a pleasant stay. Service is really unbeatable! Egyptian hospitality is on another level here and you'll get it from all the staff here from reception, restaurant, cleaning crew, beach/pool, etc. I don't do all-inclusive vacations, but this stay really makes me want to do one at least once a year now. Really lets you relax while you're here. Thanks to all the folks here thats made my first all inclusive as an adult a pleasant, pleasurable and overall relaxing stay. ---- Note: this is before my stay I've been trying to contact the hotel for about a couple days to request an airport shuttle pick up and early check in but no contact has been made. The number given after booking is constantly busy. I've tried early mornings, late evenings and it never connects. I also emailed too twice and so far no luck. Pretty disappointing service for a 5 star hotel. I'm looking forward to my stay till but this pre-care of guests is very poor and has soured the trip a bit.

I booked this hotel specifically for my 25th birthday celebration, expecting a memorable experience, but what I encountered was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I arrived, the service and conditions were utterly unacceptable.

Firstly, I had contacted the hotel in advance to arrange a special birthday treatment. Upon arrival, I found the decorations in my room to be hastily done, poorly arranged, and not neatly presented. The sheets were un-ironed, and the room was covered in dust—on the tables, by the TV, on the bed frame, and throughout the living area. I could wipe my finger across the surfaces and see the grey dust on my hand. This level of cleanliness is completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming to offer luxury accommodation.

When I requested to speak with the manager to address these issues and perhaps find some resolution, I was met with silence—no manager ever came to speak with me. Instead, I was left feeling ignored and dismissed.

Things took a turn for the worse late at night. When housekeeping arrived, they caused a mess, and the lizard fell to the floor, running around in the room. The housekeeper then insisted we needed to move rooms immediately, which was extremely disruptive and stressful. We had to pack up all our belongings and relocate to a lower-tier room—a downgrade from the suite I had originally booked. The new room was a basic double with one bathroom, a stark contrast to the luxurious suite I had paid for.

What’s most disappointing is that there was a junior suite available, which would have been a suitable upgrade, yet I was forced into the lowest room available. The hotel’s general manager, working at 2 am on 17/07/2025, told us there was nothing more they could do—either accept the downgrade or check out. It was 2:30 am by then, and I was left exhausted, frustrated, and utterly disappointed.

This experience has ruined what should have been a special celebration. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I requested a full refund for the countless inconveniences, but I was told they need to consult their financial team—something entirely irrelevant to me as a guest. The lack of remorse, empathy, or genuine apology was shocking and indicative of poor customer service.

In summary, this hotel failed on every level—cleanliness, customer service, responsiveness, and overall quality. I am extremely dissatisfied and hope no one else has to endure such an experience.

Update: Hotel agreed to give a refund as we decided to stay in the downgraded room however after getting back to the UK and reaching out to luxury escape (the company we booked via) We was told that the hotel have now declined a refund so now I will be posting my review that they...

A Perfect Stay – Pure Relaxation and Exceptional Service

We stayed at Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna as a couple for 5 nights and everything was simply amazing from the moment we arrived until our last day.

We had a Premium King View Room with all-inclusive, and it exceeded all our expectations. The room was incredibly spacious, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped (only body cream was missing from the amenities). We appreciated the complimentary mini bar as part of the all-inclusive package, and the daily cleaning service kept everything spotless.

The food was outstanding – truly a highlight of our stay. Every day brought a new and delicious selection. We enjoyed breakfast at the Fairways buffet, lunch à la carte by the pool, and buffet dinners in the evening. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Drinks, filtered water (by Brita), coffee, and cocktails were all included and readily available.

The resort itself is stunning – very well maintained, with a spacious pool area, plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, and attentive lifeguards who also helped with towels and shade when needed. The lagoon area is a peaceful alternative to the pool, offering a quieter atmosphere and clean, calm waters.

We also loved that the hotel organized evening events almost daily. You could really see the attention to detail and the effort the staff put in – preparations often started early in the afternoon!

Contrary to some reviews we read, we didn’t encounter any unpleasant situations with external visitors. Occasionally, service providers (like spa or excursions) would approach, but never in an annoying way. If you weren’t interested, they’d politely thank you and walk away. We actually found it helpful to learn about some services we wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.

The spa experience was wonderful too – located in a peaceful area across the resort near the golf course, with a charming boat ride to get there.

The location is ideal: close to El Gouna city center, with tuk-tuks always waiting just outside the hotel. A short 10-minute ride to the marina only costs 50 EGP (~0.80€). The hotel can also arrange airport transfers with their minivan service.

Lastly, the staff were exceptional – warm, helpful, and always attentive. The level of hospitality was truly 5-star.

We would absolutely return and highly recommend Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna to anyone looking for a relaxing and luxurious...
