My girlfriend and I spent nine nights at Beit Theresa at the end of 2023 and into the start of 2024. The whole experience was fantastic, from start to finish!
Location: the guesthouse is located on the seafront, in an area of Dahab called Assalah, which is 10-15 minutes walking distance from the busiest areas of the town. This means you get a lovely balance as it is peaceful, yet close to the action. There are also excellent restaurant and cafe options just a few minutes walk - you can either go along the seafront for fancier places or up into the town for more local establishments.
Setting: inside the grounds, there are three different accommodation options: a small standalone cottage with cooking facilities, an elevated treehouse style cabin, and a lodge with a double bedroom, separate shower room and additional storage space. They are well spaced out so you feel a sense of privacy and each one is thoughtfully furnished and decorated. On arrival, we were given a bowl of fruit, plenty of water, and a bottle of fresh orange juice. The grounds themselves are beautiful too - there’s a palm tree, various lovely plants decorated with fairly lights at night, and the front gate opens to a view of the sea. There are sun loungers for guests, bikes to get around, and snorkelling equipment you can borrow free of charge.
Breakfast: the resident cook, Nermin, makes the most spectacular breakfasts I have ever seen or tasted! During our time there we enjoyed Lebanese, Turkish, Egyptian and continental breakfasts, and even a full English one day. Each one was so carefully prepared and totally delicious - the Middle Eastern ones in particular were incredible, with around 15 to 20 different dishes to try. These breakfasts were served with delicious Turkish coffee (or standard coffee, but I recommend the Turkish) and fresh juices, including an incredible date smoothie. I generally didn’t need to eat lunch on the days I ate at the guest house.
The team: Mimi, who is in charge of the day-to-day running of the place, was welcoming, super friendly and incredibly helpful in terms of answering questions and suggesting things to do and try. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet her husband, as he was away on a trip. Mimi is supported by two brothers, Mohamed and Mahmoud, who take care of keeping the place clean and tidy. They are both really lovely guys and went out of their way to check in and make sure we had everything we needed.
WhatsApp: when we arrived, Mimi added me to a WhatsApp chat - this worked brilliantly in terms of smooth communication and I appreciated having the opportunity to ask her questions whenever needed. For example, I wanted to pick up some souvenirs and was able quickly to get some great recommendations of places to go.
Activities: as well as the amazing breakfasts in the morning, there were fun evening activities for guests who wanted to take part. One evening we drank tea by the fire and toasted marshmallows, another my girlfriend and I were able to watch a film on an outdoor projector in the garden (there was even popcorn!) For New Year’s Eve, Mimi arranged a trip into the nearby mountains - we ate delicious, slow-cooked food and sat under the stars. It was a great way to see in the new year. Mimi also arranged transport for trips we wanted to do independently - e.g. to Castle Zaman and to the Blue Hole.
Overall, I cannot recommend the place highly enough. If you want to stay in a lovely place that is run by a team of people who really care about making it an amazing experience you should look no further than Beit Theresa. I loved staying here and I...
Read moreThere is the good and there is the bad . And I’m going to be honest and fair about it .
I had my honey moon here a year ago. The beautiful thing about the place that the owners built it with so much passion for their project and it shows the effort . We tried paid Breakfast with a German couple and the owners . It was nice. The owner even offered to give us a mini photoshoot at the end of our stay in the property. I liked that .And they did arrange a few extra paid trips for us . One we enjoyed with a passing girl from Tanzania to coloured canyons then marshmallows camp fire by nearby hill . We did star gazing too .
The other trip I didn’t really enjoy it was a romantic dinner in the mountains but we were joined by another couple who were influencers and they wanted to record the whole thing every second and we found out last minute they were coming so it ruined that experience for me . However, the owner without us saying anything , he said at the end we need not pay for last romantic dinner in the mountain with the other couple and it will be on the house . I appreciated that . I just wish we knew from the beginning . Or it was done separately on another day so we could have enjoyed that night . That said we had the most uncomfortable room of the 3 ; the fisher man”s lodge . It was not clear on the app how small it was or how small the bed there is . The mattress was uncomfortable .We could barely fit in the bed if we tossed or turned and how low the ceiling is . Also it is basically on the walkway. So we couldn’t see any sea or enjoy sleeping until much later in the afternoon because of passersby outside , whether in walkway or even guests having breakfast inside beit theresa , we could hear everything . And there are no blinds on the window that overlooks the walkway to even put the shade away . I have heard positive reviews from other guests to the other two rooms but for us , we suffered a great deal in that room . I asked about transitioning to any of them during our stay but I was told they were fully booked . Yet when I asked the new couple in tree house , they told me they moved to the main house with the owners and that the tree house became vacant . I found that to be strange because I asked more than once if any other room becomes vacant please move us there .
They helped us arrange transportation back to airport and even let us keep our bags in the room until our departure time . They even sent it with the driver they knew . I just wish it was clear on the app that the room is no good for couples who seek privacy or comfort because I still cringe when I recollect the memory of my honeymoon in that room . It can be for a solo male traveler at best . I just do not feel we got our money”s worth in that room . This is personal experience with all that happened...
