Go Inn Backpackers Hostel is amazing, and the owner, Gandhi, is the most helpful person you will ever meet. The other staff, Ahmed, Omar, and others are also very friendly and helpful. Gandhi helped us with everything we needed and every question we had, including: which sites to visit, how to visit them, how to use the public transport, the best ways to use taxis, where to get an Egyptian SIM card, how much things should cost, and more. When we left, he organised a private driver, at a very good price, to take us to Luxor and stop off at the temples along the way. He runs a trip to Abu Simbel everyday for much cheaper than other providers. He ordered food for us from different local restaurants, and had good recommendations. There is a fridge in the reception where you can buy cold bottled water or soft drinks for 10-20 EGP, so you will never have to worry about going out to buy water. They provide free Egyptian breakfast every day, which was authentic and tasty. The rooms were comfortable with good air conditioning. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view of the Nile and its islands. The bathrooms were clean. In terms of security, there are no locks on the room doors, although there is always someone watching at reception and there are security lockers for your valuables (bring a padlock). I always felt safe because the hostel and the surrounding Nubian village has a very friendly and community atmosphere, with children playing outside. Lastly, I want to recommend the kayaks which you can rent for a cheap price from the hostel. Kayaking on the Nile, and exploring the lush green islands with many species of birds, was definitely a highlight of my entire...
Read moreThis is the kind of place that attracts the best travelers and it’s all because of the owner, Gandhi. (And amazing Wifi, and a washing machine)
You should definitely consider staying here.
As of now, April 2022, the place is a little shabby. The rooms are alright and saying the showers could be better is an understatement.
So why should you stay here?
It’s because Gandhi is just getting started. Every month funding comes in from booking and that goes straight back into the place. Grandi just finished installing A/C in every room and the roof is going to make an excellent hang out one day.
I stayed there a week and I saw Gandhi every day. First he hooked us up with some great deals on tours. He gave us so much information about everything food, public transportation, prices of what you should pay vs what people ask you, cultural information and so much more. He went well beyond any host I’ve had. He’s worked in tourism all over Egypt and is a wealth of knowledge.
Second is the people. Go Inn attracts a great crowd. It’s so easy to make friends and find groups to explore the area or just get a lower rate on a faluka 😁
If I’m ever back in aswan I will be staying here again. Would love to see it after all the...
Read moreI don't usually write review but I had to this time all because of one reason, person, gandhi. The owner of the hotel goes out of his ways to make you feel like home. It feels like you visited a close relative or friends home and stayed over for few days. He makes the real Gandhi looks like a fake. Awesome person to talk to about pretty much anything and always reliable. We are a family of four and we booked one private room and two beds in shared room. We wanted to move the beds to the private room with our parents and he didn't even hesitate to offer to help do so. Gave us rides to nearest restaurants and guided us throughout our stay! There is a historical 5 star hotel nearby for 500$ a night and I don't think you would get half the level of hospitality you get here. Many reviews here don't mention it but his little kids are also very helpful waking up 4 in the morning to make you breakfast. One of the most underrated hostel in Egypt... actually scratch that, the whole...
