My boyfriend and I decided to try out this restaurant because it was a walking distance from our hostel and it was by far the best restaurant experience I’ve had in all of Egypt. Besides the beautiful views, scenery, and music group. The food was incredible and the service was even better. We went a little bit later into the night and we initially didn’t know you had to have reservations, but the guards brought us inside and let us speak to Carlos. Carlos swiftly made a phone call, told us to wait 5 mins, came back and let us know that our table was ready. He lead us across the entire hotel into the restaurant and told us to “enjoy”. As we sat down, we were greeted by the restaurant manager, Abdul-aziz. I’m not kidding when I say this, this was by far one of my most memorable experiences that I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We breifly spoke, but Abdul-aziz was unbelievably professional, courteous, kind, patient, and soft spoken. My boyfriend and I ordered our food and it was great. I ordered the spicy shrimp and kabab halah and my boyfriend order the chicken shish taouk. I have to say, the shrimp was very slightly overcooked, however the food tastes amazing and the chicken and beef couldn’t have been cooked any better! Half way through our dinner, Abdul-aziz came out with complimentary mango drinks and put them on our table. My boyfriend and I were confused because we didn’t order it, but he let us know that it was a small “gift” for us coming to the city of Aswan. From the staff, to the views, to the food. I can honestly say, this was an unbelievable experience and you won’t be...
Read moreFor a restaurant being at a five star resort this establishment needs a new head chef and management. The time slots for dinner were from 7-9pm and 9-11 pm. We made the reservation for the earlier time slot as we had a large group and a couple of small children. Upon arrival at 7 pm we were promptly seated. The restaurant was rather quiet with not many patrons that evening. We shortly ordered our drinks, appetizers, and meals. That's when everything went wrong. 15 minutes no food down on the table, 30 minutes, 45 minutes. It was interesting seeing the chef of the restaurant mingle with a couple in front of us who mind you came 30 minutes later than we did, receive their food. One hour and fifteen minutes later my wife proceeded to request an update on our food as our small children were starving at this point. From there it looked like a bunch of chickens running around trying to find out what was going on with our orders. I don't understand how hard it is to drop appetizers on the table while we waited for our main course. The chef then came out and gave some backhanded apology. When my wife described that this was...
Read moreThis is one of the best restaurants in Aswan, IMHO, given that we didn't have much time spent in Aswan and the food in our hotel was not good at all. We came to the Old Cataract hotel restaurant over two nights. The price is higher than the usual restaurants in Aswan but the food quality was really good. This is an Egyptian restaurant and reservations are required to get a table. They have live performance of Egyptian music which some of them is quite pleasing as we dine. There is outdoor and indoor seating. The outdoor is really nice if the weather is less windy. Indoor is a little cold with the air condition but it beats having sand blown into the food as we sit in the windy weather. We ordered the oxtail tajine and hot mezzas and their dessert platter. They were delicious and we ate very...
