We walked in to this restaurant as the other restaurant in the hotel is already full. We were seated indoor as there was strong wind at the outdoor and we didn't want to risk having sand and dust in our food. The menu is a mixed fusion of western, Asian and Egyptian dishes so we didn't think much of the taste and quality. However when they served, we were really pleasingly surprised with the quality of the dishes. Every dish we had was so good! We had 4 starters / mezzas and beer and the portions are really huge so it's like having 4 main courses. Firstly the bread basket is beautiful and great quality bread. We had lentil soup, and the stuffed eggplant dish. The homemade Alex sausage was sooooo good, it has a special sauce over it. The Indian samossa was also amazingly good! The only disappointment is that the wines they serve, the foreign wines are very expensive while the local wines I didn't have good experience with. So we had local beer which was delicious. Service is an area that needs improvement. There was one guy serving the whole area and he seemed unhappy, can also smell strong tobacco on him. Otherwise, this restaurant is highly...
Read moreFood was ok but the service was absolutely terrible right from beginning when we asked for a table- there was an empty table but the waiter went and asked his supervisor “Ahmed “ and we can see and hear that he was asking if he can seat us there but the supervisor refused and he came to us and said there is no Available table and you have to wait. We waited for 15-20 minutes. During the waiting time a couple people “speakers of another language than Arabic” came and “Ahmed” the supervisor gave them the empty table straight away!
At the end when asked to confirm the name of the restaurant to review, one waiter started saying “ oh the restaurant is busy so our service is might not be as good”.
A busy restaurant is different than a bias one.
Will I go there again? I don’t think so. Do I recommend the restaurant? No because of the bias treatment.
To be fair, waiters were friendly and was trying to be helpful but “Ahmed” the supervisor was...
Read moreCame here just for their sunset high tea.
To enter Cataract Hotel, it is compulsory to buy a 700EGP voucher for each person.
2 choices of high tea set. One with shrimp pastery at US$50 and another at US$40 without the prawn and another goat cheese pastery. Definitely not worth the extra US$10. The rest of the pastries are not too bad but the fruits are not up to expectation. The watermelon, pineapple and melon dew are just bland. No sweetness like what good fruits should have.
The ambiance is very relaxing and the view of Nile especially towards sunset is spectacular from the outdoor seating. This itself is worth being here.
The service is superb as expected from a hotel of...
