The Kena Maja Hostel is right next to the bus station (bussijaam) Easy to find. Don't let the crumbling outside fool you, it's been fixed from the inside. ||||The rooms are clean and spacious, there's a practical sink in the room. We had a room with two separate beds and a bunk bed. Would have been perfect for a family of four.||||Shower was good shape (not perfect but usable and not at all icky) There are 2 toilets which are shared by all visitors and they were also clean. Kitchen worked ok for our breakfasts but did not look like much. Take your own cutting knife with you (they don't have them).||||This hostel did not have the feel of social gathering place that some hostels have. It's more like a family sleeping place with necessities close to the center. Common room was the sparsest that I've seen. ||||Reception personnel are rarely present. They will come if called and the number is visible at least on the sign outside. Good english from our host and she was helpful in a matter of fact kind of way. Tell them in advance what hour you will be arriving and they are there to give you the keys. Otherways you need to call and wait for someone to arrive.||||I can recommend the place if your main needs are cleanliness, space, easy location and quiet. Not so much if you expect sociable atmosphere, pub crawls or a nice...
Read moreWe had booked a two person room with no private toilet, but we were upgraded to a two person room with a toilet since the room was being renovated. Friendly and accomodating staff. Quite close to Kuressaare city center. Lots of pots, pans, cutlery and plates in the kitchen.
Our room seemed to have serious problems with mold and dampness. Drops formed on the windowpane at all times, even when we did not use the shower. In one of the corners of the roof there was big black mold spots. The room was very chilly. The room was quite dirty. We found stains on our sheets and black hair under our pillow. The floor was dusty and dirty as well. The sound isolation was noexistent. A group of middle aged male visitors were running around in the hostel and shouting all night. We could hear the sounds clear as day to our room and could not sleep.
Would not...
Read morePrice is great first of all. We booked just a couple of days before our visit and still got a good deal. Hostel was full but there were no discomfort (somehow we managed to go into shower without queues and didn’t hear any noise of neighbours). The room and other places like kitchen, batchroom and wc were tidy. Administrator was really great, talkative and also able to speak several languages. There were no problems with registration (no registration fee needed, surprisingly!) and booking in. And also this hostel is pet friendly which was really important to us (at first we thought to bring a dog together). To conclude, it’s a great place to stay if you don’t need a fancy place (it’s not a five-star hotel after all) and look for a comfy stay somewhere in the center...
