As you stroll through the streets of Kuressaare, you'll be delighted to dine at the Castello - a cozy, yet sophisticated restaurant with seasonal ingredients and wonderful flavours.
My friend and I were looking for a good place for dinner and the atmosphere drew us right in with a refined charm throughout the restaurant. The staff was warm and inviting from the moment we entered.
I started with an appetizer of Saaremaa beef carpaccio with summer vegetables, lamb and tomato mayonnaise. My friend enjoyed her prawns crispy breads with herb garlic sauce and the homemade fish soup. The grilled beef with garlic grilled eggplant cream were great and the herb salsa added another level of flavor and grilled smoked duck fillet with roasted celery puree, vegetables and red wine straw was something truly unique. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, making the experience all the more enjoyable
For dessert I had to try the truffle cake with pickled cherries and roasted white chocolate, made just the way I like it. Raspberry sorbet with raspberry cream, roasted crumble and berries was my friend's choice and for her was...

The food itself is OK, I guess. Although, as the restaurant is supposed to be an Italian place, having a long list of pizzas, it is somewhat baffling that the first pizza on the list is some sort of strange texmex take on a ham pizza with salsa sauce added for who knows why. Basically, it is just ruining the pizza. Sure, it is stated that the pizza has the salsa on it and I could have chosen something else, but I kind of did not think about it until it was in front of me. I was hungry, I finished it, but I still do not understand what the salsa was supposed to add to the pizza.
And the grilled salmon was partially charred. Not great.
Sitting outside is quite nice, although the sound system is ridiculous. Basically, only one low level small speaker was working, giving off a flat tin-like sound (think speakers of 90s PC computers).
All in all, it was fine(ish), but considering all the other options you can find in a 100m radius, I really do not know why you should...
Read moreA very good value - tasty food, friendly attentive service and reasonable prices. We ordered two pizzas and a pasta. The pasta was very tasty (8/10), the Margherita pizza, which is the one dish to compare different pizzerias around the world, was not special - the dough was too simple. Although the pizza itself was tasty (as any fresh well made pizza to a hungry person, it was not comparable to the likes of Kaja pizza in Tallinn, so (6/10). But the amazing experience of this dinner was the Pizza Americana with a thick crust on a pan - that classic was executed amazingly well 10/10. So all in all the food was very tasty, but not overall amazing. The service though was very good, friendly and attentive (10/10). The courtyard behind the buidling is the best place to sit, quite spacious and good atmosphete overall. This restaurant has definitely earned its high rating on...
