We stayed for 3 nights at Camping de l'hippodrome in our motorhome. It is easy to find and very conveniently located close to the main motorway; but not so close that you can hear the motorway, you definitely can't. It was full when we arrived and is clearly very popular.
The campsite is very clean, well looked after and maintained. We stayed with our dog, who was welcome, and who unlike a previous reviewer who took their dog, she was absolutely fine, no health problems at all. I just can't see how you or your dog would get poorly at this site or any of those that we've stayed at for that matter.
It is really close to not only the Casino Geant supermarket but also to the town, the seafront and a host of bars & restaurants. The tourist office is literally 50m from the main gate.
The site doesn't have a bar nor a restaurant, but that's no problem at all. There are plenty of places to eat all within walking distance, from McDonald's and Burger King right up to Michelin star restaurants close to the port and marina.
Camping de l'hippodrome is small and compact and the focal point is the lovely swimming pool. The pitches are of a good size, our motorhome is 7.2m long, there were longer ones on the site. We didnt have any problem in parking or pitching up. The site is nice & private, with a large boundary wall providing the privacy running around the perimeter. Each pitch has water and electricity and the grey waste with chemical toilet drain is one of the best and easiest to access of the sites that we have visited over the last 7 weeks.
Yes there are the usual rules, trunks not shorts, don't move the sunbeds; buy they all help to maintain the standards. Standards' which means this 'open-all-year' campsite isn't cheap but it's very much on a par with almost every other site that we've stayed at. The biggest difference is that you get a better standard of site in France than we found you get in Italy (generally speaking).
The walk to the supermarket is no more than five minutes. The walk, straight past the tourist information office, to the seafront is no more than 10 minutes, so it's really close. Everything really is within walking distance, there is no need to use your car or motorhome to get around once you've pitched up.
Going back to the reviewer who moaned about the site. There tend to be those who use the Google review system to genuinely carry out a review, to talk about their experience, the good, the bad and the indifferent, and then there are those who rarely post any reviews and then use their review as a means to air their grievance, or their believed grievance, which is not what the review system is about, is it?
We really enjoyed our stay and the privacy that we had on our...
Read moreThe strangest and most annoying campsite I’ve ever stayed at
Positives: The site is close to the sea (5-minute walk). Good location for exploring Antibes and the Nice area. Large pitches with water hookups.
Negatives: The online pictures show the shower and the pool, but the rest of the site and the sanitary facilities are outdated and not clean. Weird rules everywhere: Shoes off in the shower room (athlete's foot risk?), no children under 18 in the pool, no shorts in the pool, shoes off in the entire pool area, pool closes at 6 PM, gate open from 7 AM to 7 PM only. No toilet paper. No soap or towels. The site is situated between an XXL supermarket, Burger King, and a motor garage on a busy road. This road actually divides the campsite, and you have to cross it (in a bathrobe) to reach the showers, which is quite risky. The shower room is under video surveillance (completely unacceptable). The shower temperature can't be adjusted (sometimes hot, sometimes warm, never just right). The internet doesn't work properly (reception's response: "no idea"). 60 euros per night is way too much for the comfort provided (and an additional 9 euros per day for electricity? I didn’t come here to mine Bitcoins). at 8 or 9 in the morning the gardener cleans up the site very loud every morning and wakes you up Nice city is away 30 to 45 minutes by car Arrivals only after 14:00. Until then gates are closed and no parking is provided from the campsite. Additional no space for parking is available in the surrounding of the campsite. You drive crazy there when you come a bit too early.
Conclusion: Never again. The owners are happy to take your money but don't care about the guests. You don’t feel welcome, just tolerated. No toilet paper or soap for 60 euros a night, and video surveillance in the shower room—completely unacceptable. I also nearly had an accident crossing the road that divides the campsite just to get to the showers....

We had a fantastic stay at Camping de l’Hippodrome in Villeneuve-Loubet. The location is unbeatable — walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and shops, with easy access to the surrounding area.
The site itself is neat, tidy, and clearly well looked after. The team sweep daily, and it really shows — it’s one of the cleanest sites we’ve stayed on. The facilities are excellent too, especially the showers, which are truly top-notch! Some of the other facilities aren’t quite as high-end yet, but you can tell it’s a work in progress and it’s heading in the right direction.
The campsite is set across both sides of a road, which is worth noting. If you’re on the far side, you’ll need to cross over to use the main showers, but that side still has toilets, washbasins, and a washing-up area. The road is a little noisy at times, but honestly, that’s the trade-off for such a prime location.
What really made our stay stand out, though, was the staff. Incredibly helpful, friendly, and always on hand — more like hotel concierge service than a campsite! When one of our friends broke his foot during the trip, they even managed to find a wheelchair for us. That level of service is rare and truly appreciated.
All in all, this is a five-star site in our book. We loved it and would be genuinely gutted if we don’t get the...
