So much potential in this place as the chateau is stunning on the outside, with a beautiful gardens and pool. It could be very peaceful. But a loud party organised by the hotel going on until past midnight without any warning, cold showers, and appaling service with clear attempts to overcharge us upon checkout really spoilt our stay.
Loud party - On our first night there was a party in the restaurant directly below us with a full sound system, a band and then a DJ going on until 12.30pm. The floor in our bathroom was shaking with the noise.
Room - had a nice balcony with a view of the sea and gardens but otherwise the rooms are a little dated and poorly thought out. We had a kettle with too short a chord to use anywhere but the floor propped on some books. Stains on the carpet. The shower mounting was placed such that if you are shorter only your head gets water. The water in the shower was cold on the first day in the morning and evening. There was a smell of sewage in the hallway on a couple of days that came into the room.
Pool- the pool is beautiful but gardeners constantly blow leaves and mow the grass meaning it isnt as calm as it could be. There was no bar food or bar service available next to the pool while we stayed which seemed below whats expected for a 4* and when they obviously have the facilities for it.
Service - a couple of the staff (Davide in the restaurant) were very nice. However several reception members were very rude to us. On the night when there was the party, there was no warning, they didn't really apologise and the only response was "the party is also guests of the hotel". After we made several complaints they said they would give a reduction in the room rate for that night and free breakfast the next day. The manager/owner served us aggressively at the breakfast and gave me the wrong coffee and then simply rolled her eyes when I explained that I asked for something else. No apology.
Breakfast- at €24 per person it is very costly and for that you get only one hot dish (some overly buttered scrambled egg), limited options and we had to ask for more items to be brought out.
Check-in. Other than being given a key card we were given no further information about anything apart from telling us we couldn't have our prepaid meal because the restaurant was fully booked. We had booked in advance so that wasn't correct but the reception staff was simply rude about this.
Check-out. On Check out we were presented with a large bill even though we had prepaid. On the bill they were charging us for the dinner we had prepaid for. When I explained the reception staff argued the prepaying was for one person, which would make it more expensive than just paying in the restaurant, and was not what it said on his own paperwork in front of him. He then went to speak to the manager and I could hear her telling him to go speak to the housekeeping to see what else they could charge for. I then watched him for 10 minutes on the CCTV walk around the hotel,go in to inspect our room looking for other things to charge us with. I have never experienced anything like it. In the end we got a new bill with completely different numbers on it and different items on it. It was like Fawlty Towers and check-out took 30minutes.
With different management this could be a fabulous hotel, but as it is, it generally was a very uncomfortable place to stay. This is not something we have ever experienced before in the many hotels we...
Read moreThe hotel is in a beautiful setting, with a lovely pool and in a quieter area away from the busyness of Cannes. Staff are lovely and friendly, particularly the two ladies and young man on breakfast service who can’t do enough to help you despite working in the crazy heat!
Unfortunately, there is only so much the wonderful staff can do with the hands they are dealt. The hotel is lovely to look at from initial views- however bathrooms are tired and rooms could do with an update. The biggest issue we faced was the aircon. Which despite being told was working (I rang ahead after reading previous reviews) was nothing more than a puff of air. We travelled with a baby so were worried about the heat of the room. Despite the aircon stating it was on full at 17 degrees, the temp of our room never went below 27 degrees the whole time we were there. I rang down several times wondering if something needed to be switched on at reception but unfortunately it is just literally that bad. In the end after complaining it was too hot for a baby, a man from reception gave us their fan, which made the stifling room just about breathable. But still, I would say I had ten days of very little sleep due to the heat of the room.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t book this hotel again until they invest in a new and working conditioning system. For the price (we paid extra for a deluxe room), you don’t expect to be taking 3 cold showers a day because it’s so hot in your room.
Finally, a tip is to order your omelette and coffee as soon as you sit down at breakfast. The first day, mine never arrived and I heard lots of other families over the week complain about the same issue- seems some days the cook just forgets about a few orders. After the first day it never happened again and we were looked after so well every morning...
Read moreWe stayed two nights at this hotel in August. Upon arrival, we noticed our room’s air conditioner was not functional. We spoke to reception and they came to check and confirmed it was on. We left for a couple of hours, leaving the air conditioner on full fan, hoping to cool the room. On our return, the room was even warmer so we asked to be moved to another room. |The room we were moved to was a staff space and had no light, an unclean bathroom, a mouldy smell and holes in the plaster on the walls. But it did have a working air conditioner and by this time of afternoon, we were not able to find an affordable alternative hotel so we agreed to stay. We were told by the reception staff that we would discuss a refund in the morning with the manager. |The next day when we asked to speak to the manager, we were told she had left for the day. We asked the receptionist to please call her to confirm our refund. Over the phone, she confirmed that we would be reimbursed for our stay the following day. |As we went to check out the following morning, we were told that the manager doesn’t work on Mondays and as we had a plane to catch, we had to take the receptionists word that it would be sorted on Tuesday. |It has now been three weeks and we have sent a dozen emails which go unanswered. The few times we have been able to have a phone call answered, we face the same excuse of the manager not being there. ||I am imploring the manager to please get in contact with me about this issue.||In the meantime, if you’re considering staying here - I’d choose...
