A basic but clean and pleasant hotel right on the harbour front - right in the middle of all the bustle, but well enough tucked away not to be impacted by the noise (at least not in the room we were in).
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff - Ursula was friendly and helpful and an absolute star with our youngest, who was having a bit of a difficult time (he still has the balloon animal she made for him, although it's slowly deflating). I got a call from the hotel the day before we arrived, just to make sure I understood where to park, how to find them, and generally to answer any other questions I had. I felt they really went above and beyond to make our stay easy and comfortable.
Worth noting that you cannot park at the hotel (this is well documented on their website and in their post-booking e-mails) - we parked in the old port west car park, which was about 5-10 mins walk away, along the harbour front. There are also stairs up into the hotel (it's located above bars & restaurants) and I don't think there's a lift, so you have to carry your luggage with you.
We had a family room (a queen/king sized bed and two singles) and although it was a little bit cozy it was fine for one night - it was clean and we all slept well.
Although they offer breakfast in your room, we went to one of the many local cafes - the hotel were very happy to keep our luggage behind reception while we did this (another example of how friendly and helpful they were).
If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive, but functional and clean place to stay, in the heart of La Rochelle, then Hotel La Marine is well worth...
Read moreThis lovely hotel couldn’t be situated in a more enviable location with prime views of Port Vieux.||You enter through a doorway nestled between two restaurants and climb 2 flights of stairs to get to reception which is manned between 3pm and 8pm. The welcome was warm and friendly and we were kindly helped with our luggage to our room. There is no lift so travel light especially if like us you were on the top floor.||Our room was lovely, spacious and very well equipped. Our large bathroom had a glass half wall between it and the bedroom which may not suit some guests. The bed was super comfy with quality crisp linen and good pillows. There is a table and chairs looking out over the port, the perfect place to relax with a coffee or even a glass of wine taking in the stunning view.||Breakfast is served in the room at your agreed time, we upgraded our breakfast to included ham/cheese and eggs along with the continental selection. Very tasty and good value, really set us up for the day.||The hotel is small and well equipped, there isn’t a bar or communal area however with us only staying 2 nights it really wasn’t an issue for us.||Great stay, climbing 4 flights of stairs was absolutely worth it for the...
Read moreThe unique selling point of this hotel is the location, situated on the first floor of a beautiful old building in the old harbour of La Rochelle. Be advised though: the hotel is located in a pedestrian zone, so you'll have to walk with your suitcases to reach the hotel. Because the hotel doesn't have parking spots, we parked at Parking Verdun, at about ten minutes walk from the hotel. ||Our room on the second floor was cozy, but quite small. The bed was very good and the shower was excellent. At night the room was very quiet, so I slept well. The separate toilet was really very small, I can't imagine a tall person sitting comfortably on this toilet seat. The hotel has a lot of stairs and doesn't have an elevator, so if you are a person with reduced mobility, this hotel is not suited for you.||Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Reception has limited opening hours, so make sure to double check the check-in times.||The hotel does not have a breakfast room. Breakfast is served in the room, which we did find a bit of a hassle. Not that big of a fan of breakfast in bed. The breakfast consisted of fresh croissants and pain au chocolat and jam. No savoury breakfast options. Would have loved some...
