My partner and I were planning our first trip to the south of France. As it was August, we thought to go off the beaten path and try a few quieter destinations. We had read a bit about Cassis and agreed that it was just what we needed after a hot summer in New York. We chose Astoria Villa because we required a sea view and were looking for reasonable rates. We typically stay at fine hotels so we chose the best available room in this small fantastically old world B and B. The tower room had panoramic views of the sea and partial view of the port. We knew when we walked in and saw the quirky mix of authentic modern pieces of furniture with antiques and the library containing a book by Joan Didion that we were in the right place. |Our lovely host Carolyn could not have been better. She greeted us, showed us around and would appear as needed in the morning to see that we were all set for our day. The breakfast is typical French breakfast do fresh fruit, bread, pastries and a 24 hour espresso machine if needed. (A must for us). |Sylvie was Carolyn’s right hand and took very good care of all guests. The property is lovely, the pool is sweet and the energy is divine. Our view, well it speaks for itself. The bathroom has low ceilings in the tower room but it felt like a wonderful French adventure. We indulged in two lovely restaurants - one the Michelin Star rated Villa Madi and the other was just across the road at the road at a fabulous hotel. |Thank you Carolyn for a...
Read moreWe stayed in the 'Panoramic View of the Sea' room and it very much did what it said on the tin! The room had stunning views across the bay so you could lay in bed and take it all in. The bed was very comfy too! ||||Our room was the most expensive, due to the view, but I think the other room with partial sea view looked lovely, and you could certainly look out of the skylight to see the sea from there. ||||The decor was lovely - the room was only small but perfectly fit for purpose, and the bathroom was large (although the shower is in the bath, so you need to get help from your partner or keep one hand on the shower head if you're not keen on baths!) ||||The accommodation was perfect - gorgeous pool with sun beds for all guests. Being a 10 minute walk from Cassis (downhill on the way, uphill on the way back!) means that the location isn't at all noisy, which was a big factor for me when booking. ||||Breakfast was simple and excellent - pastries and different fruit each day, plus coffee and tea to help yourself to throughout the day.||||Caroline was helpful, polite (and glamorous!) and her dog is super cute too! ||||The wifi was very temperamental so if you need to work and travel I'd consider that, but we were trying to switch off so...
Read moreWe loved our stay in the Panoramic room, the views were magic. The bed was comfortable the bathroom worked well, always plenty of hot water. The breakfast was continental, croissant, pain chocolat, bread, fruit and you make your own coffee and tea (can do that all day), You can sit outside on the balcony or inside if the weather is not clement. The owner appears at breakfast so you can ask questions. Its got parking but no bicycles anymore. The position is perfect, very close to the calanques and hiking, the other way 3 minutes to a beach and about 10 to the restaurants, The walk back after dinner is needed for digestion!. The pool is unheated and the grass is fake but it is a nice outside area to sit and have a drink and relax. There is a fridge you can leave your drinks in but appreciate someone else might drink it if you do not put your name on it, we did not have a problem.|Altogether a...
