Besides some positive reviews by others, this hotel is of really poor condition & the worst hotel I've ever been to. Very expensive - €100/night, including a breakfast that you can't really call breakfast. Very poor breakfast food choices...super basic to hostel level & it only starts from 7.15am. Never seen such a late start to breakfast service! People smoking all over the hotel, besides "not allowed"...so really unpleasant. The smoke was on all floors & corridors. My room was on the top floor, according to the receptionist, the "VIP" room...i couldn't really see where VIP, but voila! My room had 2 double beds, besides my booking for a single. No or very little space to move around the room...basically just enough to walk through. Furniture blocking the opening of the balcony doors & some lights not working, nor was working the room telephone. The toilet very very small...difficult to move around. Furniture old & falling apart in the toilet. Toilet also smelled mould quite badly. I had to keep one of the balcony doors opened to ventilated the room, the one that could partially open at least. Fire extinguisher poorly maintained in the corridor with a loose hose. The public staying in was varied...from loud people to some few business travellers like myself.
There was a lot of negatives, but I just wanted to mention the positives too.
1- Good central location, within 9 minutes walk from Gare du nord station, for Eurostar travellers like me very convenient.
2- Great city views over the top floor. I was lucky to have got the front view on top floor with the only large walking balcony available. So this made me feel better.
3- the guy at the reception was really kind & polite. He was the only receptionist I've seen throughout my 2 nights stay & I was pleased with his service.
4- very comfortable bed with clean linen. I didn't sleep well for the 2 nights but for other reasons. The bed & bedding were spotless! A real plus!
5- I had the hotel neon light hanging on my balcony, which some may find it negative but in fact, taking into consideration the Parisian building styles & the views I had, the neon gave the experience a real charming context. Perhaps chabby but it was within the city context. Loved it! :-)
General comments: I understand it may be very expensive to run a property in central Paris but the hotel condition is very very poor. It almost borders into a bordel/ or poor hostel. It is no way even a 2 stars. Take into consideration the positives I mentioned & if owners were to upgrade & refurbish the property, then I guess the £100 / night would be more justifiable. I didn't spend much time in the room...it was basically a sleep over from 11pm in to a 6am out during my stay, but if I had to stay longer than that, it would have upset me a lot more.
I had a great time in Paris, even though a work trip, so the hotel itself played very little in the negative experience but played a fantastic role in giving me so nice views over the city. Would I come back to this...

My first impression of this hotel was not the best, walking up to the doors of ‘open 24 hours’ to the doors being locked. We waited at the door for someone to come along and eventually somebody did, we were brought in to be told we couldn’t check in yet and to leave our bags in the lobby exposed to everyone to see.
We ventured off into the local area considering the hotel didn’t offer anywhere to sit and wait bar a small 2 person sofa facing the reception desk.
The general area in itself doesn’t feel like a place you want to revisit, it’s dirty and the general area leaves you feeling uneasy.
After waiting around for 2 hours we were finally allowed to check in, to again be surprised with more information of a ‘tax’ we had to pay, we didn’t argue we just wanted to get to our room so we just paid the €41 tax that the receptionist has told us to pay.
We then get into the smallest elevator I’ve ever seen in my life ( it barely fit 2 people and a suitcase). Go into our room to be blasted with an overwhelming smell of bleach or something of the sort.
Under the bed had rubbish, the fire safety sign on the back off the door hanging off, under the phone there is cables everywhere, the Tv remote wasn’t working, the tv speakers were barely functional, Aircon hasn’t been cleaned and dust all over the room.
This hotel is a safety hazard and should be avoided at all costs.
Tiny bathroom with one body towel given and you’re expected to reuse it, knowing that there is two people here for 4 nights.
The walls are paper thin, you can hear absolutely everything going on. Every single morning (I know this is out of hotels control) awoken around 8am every morning to the sound of drilling from somewhere in the building.
The ‘free breakfast’ which would normally cost €10pp per day, was claimed to be a buffet, this ‘buffet’ consisted of boiled eggs in a fridge and croissants, which was in the lobby, not in a separate room, it’s directly beside the reception. Another disappointment.
At night time there are gangs of people who hang out, at the benches facing the hotel making you feel watched and unsafe.
0/10 do not waste your money or time here.
€670.00 for 4 nights + €41.60 tax
In the night between 11 and 12 January I checked in in the Hotel d'Alsace, as many, given its proximity to gare de l'est- I had a train to ride early morning.
Having a short night ahead and tired after a long flight, I was very much looking forward to having some good rest, but to my great disappointment this was not meant to come true.
Having entered my room, I was shocked by how terribly freezing it felt. While it was 0° outside, there was a slightly open window in the room and no heating was on (actually, no heating system whatsoever in the room). I have tried to remedy the situation by turning on a small AC hanging above the entry door to the room, however, it would not work. No improvement of temperature was happening.
Having tried to fall asleep fully dressed and under two blankets, I realised I wouldn't be able to do so as the temperature was still freezing.
It took me one hour and a half of back-and-forth with the receptionist to realise there was no solution. There was no spare heater and the only available alternative room that was offered did not have any heating on either.
At 2:30 am, having realised I can only get sick and insomniac in this room, I was forced to leave for a hotel next door, who luckily had a room for me.
To sum up, I payed 130 eur extra for another hotel, only had 3 hours of sleep and woke up with my nose running and a sore throat.
The worst hotel experience in my life. Please avoid this hotel...
