There is a cool hipster vibe at this hotel, but no one actually seems to want to do much work to welcome guests. It gets 2 stars for the location & basic safety/cleanliness. There isn't much else good to say. The location is OK for access to Paris attractions, but the service & quality of the room just don’t make it worthwhile. I definitely do not recommend it!
When I first booked the hotel, the only room that was available had a queen bed. I wanted two singles, so I emailed & received a response that my room would be changed if anything opened up. A few weeks before the trip, I checked & was pleased to find that I now had two single beds.
When we arrived at the hotel around 11:00 am, I went to the desk & said that we were there to check in. The man at the desk told me it’s too early & rooms were not ready. Then he went back to whatever he was doing on the computer. He didn’t ask my name or if he could take our bags or anything. I’m a Titanium Marriott member with lots of Marriott stays in the past, and this has NEVER happened. I fully expected that the room might not be ready, but I also expected what typically happens: the desk agent would take my name and offer to keep my bags and to call when the room was ready. Nope. Finally, I asked if we could leave our bags. He handed me two tags and pointed to where we could drop our bags, unsecured, in the lobby.
When we returned that evening, the same man checked us in & handed me a key. I asked if it was a room with two twins, as requested. He said no. He didn’t offer to check availability or anything. I asked him to check if there were any rooms with two twins, since that’s what I’d reserved. He didn’t say anything…he simply walked away from the desk. I didn’t know where he was going…to check on the rooms, or was he just done with me?? I must’ve looked perplexed because another employee, Irwin, came over to ask if I was being helped. I explained that I was hoping to get a room, as reserved, with 2 twins. The first guy came back and they changed our room. I asked if breakfast is included, since it typically is for Titanium members. The first employee simply said no. When I inquired why not, Irwin stepped in and offered us a 16 euro/day credit toward any room charges. (Breakfast is 15 euros/day.)
We took our key and went up to our room. Our room was at the end of the hallway and around a corner in a little alcove. The automatic lights don’t extend into the alcove, making it pitch black at night. When we would leave the room, we’d have to take a half dozen steps in the pitch black before we were close enough to activate the motion sensor in the hallway.
I’ve stayed in Paris and other large cities before, and know that rooms tend to be small. This one was laughably so. My friend and I couldn’t even cross paths because the space was so narrow that we had to go one at a time. There was no closet or dresser, only a bar on the wall with 4 hangers. No phone and no nightstand, and only a few tiny shelves to hold our belongings. With my Marriott Titanium status, I’m supposed to have an upgraded room if available. If this is the best room on the property, I’d be afraid to see the worst!
The second night, we returned to our room well after midnight to find that we had no towels. Not a single hand towel, bath towel, or anything! We didn’t have a phone to call the front desk, of course, so I walked down to request towels. The reception employee said he’d send someone right up, within 15 minutes. After 30 min, we went to ask again. The desk employee said he couldn’t leave the desk and didn’t know what to do. By now, it’s 1:30 in the morning. Eventually, she convinced him to have the bartender keep an eye on the front desk so he could find us some towels.
No one asked us about the quality of our stay at checkout; I honestly didn’t feel like anyone cared the entire time we were there. I filled out the Marriott survey after my stay and provided comment about our disappointment; I never heard anything back from anyone at...
Read moreThis hotel should be great and could be. As a Marriot rewards member I get great service and recognition but not here. (Except w welcome drink - thanks !). Having stayed at several other Moxy’s. If you don’t want you higher graded members to stay then sonny promote this brand us of it does not meet Marriott’s service levels. I could as have before stayed at a great boutique hotel in This area, but chose to be loyal I wish I had not. Some of the staff saved the day, but this was nothing to do with my Marriott rewards status just because they are great people. As Marriot will tell it’s owners there is a high percentage of rooms booked through the loyalty program. When I stayed at the Marriot in Doha last month for two nights at the same room rate as this Moxy ( staying here for a week ) I received an email from the manager and like here only my second stay there. It’s takes seconds to give that level of client care. The Moxy brand I get is aimed at a more Millennial guest, but you need to also reflect what a Marriot member looks for across the brands. Despite calling ahead and asking not for an upgrade but for a larger that standard room. (No option for a another room category at booking). We were offered nothing but a standard room, no welcome gift, points, food or the parking for free or discounted. The check in staff tried to be helpful and would not critical them, but the manager said they were full for the week. Not the case we found out. After much requesting we ended up in a disabled room with lights kit working, a broken bathroom door. No bathroom shelf and then a shower that flooded the room after one minute of use. I complained in the morning about the flooding and told nothing could be done until the Monday. I tried to fix myself but buying drain unblocker. As the drains are undersized and obviously not maintained as backing up. No effort by the front desk team to resolve until I met the guys who checked us in who were mortified I tried to sort myself. They then moved us to the sort of room I had been asked for but told not available at check in. If you are a Marriott brand you should have maintenance on hand at weekends The bar is great and busy as the staff who run it are amazing. But the reception team even if not dealing with anyone are not allowed to help them it seems. Bad for revenue and team spirit. Breakfast team are really nice. That’s it, you have limited my review to...
Read moreThe staff are really friendly and very welcoming. Everybody I encountered was bilingual and have been trained not to laugh at my awful, awful French language "skills". The room I stayed in was clean and cleaned daily (if you're out of the room early enough).
Those at the high points. The rest wouldn't make me want to stay there again, I dig into staying at Marriott properties wherever I can as they tend to be consistently great, and getting the occasional upgrade is a plus.
So, the details.
The bathroom was the worst, very tired and worn. There were chips in the enamel in the tub, and the drains took their sweet time to drain (leaving soap scum/toothpaste spit all over the surface of the sink/bath — ugh).
The paint had been painted over several times so the dings were just crappier and deeper. The towels were just the right side of being sandpaper and some where white, the rest a kind of light grey/yellow colour. Clean but really tired. The discolouration in the grout is pretty sad.
If you've never stayed at a Moxy before they don't have a room phone so if you want to ask for anything you have to go downstairs. No coffee maker but you do get access to the Melita espresso machine which is tons better. They also skimp on things like mouthwash(!) so you can either go without or buy a big bottle that gets wasted after your few days stay. For a brand that touts being Green as far as the eye can see... well that's a miss.
For a hotel that obviously targets Millennials and Gen Z they really don't get the power outlet thing by the bed. One side of the bed had a very small shelf pretending to be a night stand and the other had nothing. So one of you is going to have to fish around on the floor to find your devices if you need them in the night.
And finally the room is RIDICULOUSLY small. If you're on the far side of the bed you've got about a 9"/25cm clearance to get into bed. You'll be rubbing up against the curtain and who knows who's done that before you and what state of undress they were in (ewww!).
This is the last Moxy I'll stay at, some of them do better than others, and it's so unpredictable as to what you're...
