Disappointing First Parisian Dining Experience Marred by Suspicious Service My inaugural visit to Paris included an unfortunate dining encounter at a Brooklyn-themed pizza restaurant, conveniently located near my Airbnb. With only an hour for a quick meal before heading to our next destination, my family chose this spot. Despite not being particularly hungry, we intended to share a modest order.
Upon being seated, I clearly communicated our plan to the waiter: one pizza and one pasta dish. I even sought recommendations and inquired about portion sizes to ensure we didn't over-order. After the waiter confirmed the approximate dimensions, I explicitly reiterated our choice of two total dishes.
The food itself was a mixed bag. The pizza, while decent, was a notable departure from authentic New York-style pizza in both taste and texture. The truffle pasta, though having a rich underlying flavor, was surprisingly bland overall.
The true issues began with the delivery of our order. The waitress arrived with two pizzas and two pastas. I immediately corrected her, stating we had only ordered one of each. She removed one pizza, promising to verify with the original waiter. However, the waiter soon returned, presenting his device as "proof" that I had ordered two pizzas. Reluctant to create a scene, I reluctantly accepted the second pizza, despite my explicit instructions to the contrary.
The payment process proved even more frustrating. When I attempted to pay the €77.75 bill with my credit card, the transaction inexplicably failed. This was particularly puzzling as I had used the exact same card successfully just 30 minutes prior at a local market, and it had worked flawlessly throughout my trip in Paris. Assuming a minor glitch, I tried two more different credit cards, but all three were inexplicably rejected. The waiter insisted the issue was with my cards. Forced to pay with cash, I left the restaurant deeply unsettled.
My suspicions solidified almost immediately. After leaving the pizzeria, I used the very same credit cards for various purchases—subway tickets, drinks, and more—all without a single issue. This stark contrast led me to believe that the waiter, perhaps fearing a non-payment or a chargeback, had deliberately manipulated the card processing device to decline my payment. Furthermore, I am now convinced that the additional pizza was also an intentional error on his part, directly contradicting my clear and repeated order for only two dishes.
Overall, the entire experience was deeply unsatisfactory and left a lingering sense...
Read moreThe place and the atmosphere is AMAZING, the food is tasty and the cocktails are great. The overall experience honestly just depends on who is waitering you.
I work in hospitality myself for some time now and what I've noticed is that there is walking around some expert staff who do an absolutely amazing job and are super friendly.
I visited two days in a row and we have been helped by exactly not so excelling ones, first day the girl simply seemed uninterested and it was challenging to order things/to get to talk to her. She was friendly so it wasn't a big deal. Second day the guy SEEMED new, he charged my happy hour cocktails full price and didn't understand that they were too expensive on the bill. My debit card declined because of the contactless paying not being possible at the moment. He walked away with my card, which is already not ok, but then decided to help other guests with my debit card still being with him. When I freaked out his amazing colleague got my card back to me, but an apology wasn't out of place. He was simply ignorant/uninterested (my waiter, not the one who got...
Read moreWorst service ever. 1st, the runner was very not welcoming, he almost throw the plates to my face and would not speak loud enough for us to ear anything he said. 2nd, they brought me an almost cold pasta plate, and would not re heat it because I would not eat all of the 2nd one, so they let me ate my cold pastas - not professional. 3rd, we asked for water the whole night and ended up going and taking it ourselves because they wouldn’t bring it to us 4th, the same runner man had forks fallen on the floor and just put them back in the washed cutlery service. 5th, last but not least, for all of what happened, the manager (supposedly) told us she would make a gesture and offer us either the dessert or coffee. We took one dessert to share, and she ended up printing a separate check for this when it was not on the 1st check. We first contested and refused to pay the 2nd check, but she told us we had no choice. Worst experience ever in Paris. Recommend 0%. Also, food was OK but nothing exceptional, you can definitely have better and WARM in many...
