Paul and Roma were very helpful at check-in. I went to my room, and while there was a large bed, the sofa was made up as a bed. I went back to reception, to ask if someone from housekeeping could unmake the sofa, to be told that all housekeeping staff had left! I was told that he hotel was full and they were not sure they could find another room, but they did. On the same floor and virtually the same room and the sofa was not made up! However, 2 single duvets on the bed (as sometimes happens in Germany). No other types of duvet available, which was most unfortunate as I was travelling alone. I survived for 3 nights! I received a free drink at the bar plus a small bottle of wine in my room, much appreciated. I had some great conversations with Dragush (not sure of spelling) at the bar and really appreciated his attentiveness. I had one meal at the hotel. It was okay but I didn't find the menu so appealing. Breakfast was disappointing. No welcome or offer of a coffee. I had to find my own table and also collect cutlery, etc. More professionalism of staff required. It was the same for 3 mornings, so there seems to be a problem at breakfast. Selection not great and the bacon was dry and brittle. No indication as to whether an omelette or fried egg could be ordered. Just scrambled egg available. I had some laundry done. The price was reasonable - 18 euros for 4 shirts, compared to 48 euros at Radisson Leipzig! Quite a difference. Very friendly checkout. Although the hotel is not in the centre of the city, there are still several good restaurants near by, and once you have your orientation, it's only a 10 minute walk (or less) to the...
Read moreI stayed here 5 nights for business and this hotel has a lot going for it.||||PROS: clean room (401), friendly and helpful staff, spotless restrooms, fresh fruit, water and tea available anytime. The supermarket is in the same block and the train station and tram are very close. The Rhine River is very close and there are plenty of walking/biking trails. Easy walk to John Deere Mannheim. No rental car needed. Free wi-fi with strong signal. Plenty of storage for clothes and shoes. Good breakfast.||||CONS: bed is very firm with one full-size pillow and another tiny one. Duvet is about half the size it needs to be. I am 5’4” and I woke up multiple times needing to rearrange the duvet to cover myself. Only English TV channels are news (maybe 3)? When you stay for a week, that gets old. Side note: I consider myself a BREXIT expert now based on the volume of news||Coverage I watched. Had supper one night at the restaurant. It was OK. Server was very good.||||Will definitely stay again if I travel...
Read moreI stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Lanzcarre during my recent business visit to Mannheim.
The staff is super friendly and helpful and that's probably the biggest asset of this hotel. The hotel is located in a quiet locality around 15 mins walk from the station. If you need to visit the city center, you need to catch a tram 5 walk mins away and would reach the center with another 10 mins tram ride.
I stayed in the Individual room which was tiny but decent for a single person. The sleep quality was good due to the quiet locality and comfortable bedding. The breakfast spread was decent, but not the best I have tried around. The best part was the gluten free breads which they baked on demand due to my gluten intolerance.
Overall, an option you may consider, especially if you want to avoid the city chaos and don't mind...
