Does not live up to reviewers' glowing promises. I was there the last week of July and it was cold and rainy; temperatures in the low 50s F at night. My room was not heated, I felt cold, and heat was not a possibility because "normally in July we do not provide heat." You're agreeing with me, not explaining your bad service. Free coffee and snacks mean nothing if the coffee machine is broken and the drinks are taken and never replenished. No in room refrigerator means if you bring back to the hotel a beverage or a dessert or anything from the local grocery store, you can't refrigerate it. There was no Wi-Fi Internet connection for two or three days (I don't mean slow, I mean it didn't work at all .) This was the worst hotel breakfast I've ever experienced in Germany: one kind of bread, two kinds of cheese, three kinds of juice, no salmon, no non-dairy milk, tiny skimpy choices of meat, etc; I didn't go hungry but this wasn't what I expected. The hotel did not offer the famous Munich breakfast weisswurst; restaurants don't sell it because it's only for breakfast. So when can I get it? Only hotel I've ever been to all over the world which asked as I left each morning, in a hurry to catch a train, did I want the room cleaned? You mean the room where I left the do not disturb sign and where I already talked to the cleaner? And by the way did I want to leave my key, so that when I return that night a desk clerk who had never seen me would refuse me entry because I don't have my key? Some of the staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. Yes, the hotel is extremely convenient to the Munich East train and transit station, and I took advantage of that, especially during the constant rain storms. My room was on the small side but clean and neat and well equipped. With the window closed, the room is quiet. Also I normally never remark on it, because European elevators are always smaller than American ones, but that is genuinely the smallest elevator I have ever seen: there was room for me and my suitcase if I exhaled, anyone else would...
Read moreWe had a lovely stay at Moma1890 Boutique Hotel during our recent visit to Munich. The location is excellent—just a short walk from Ostbahnhof station, with a direct S8 train connection to the airport in about 30 minutes. The neighbourhood itself is peaceful and residential, filled with local cafés and bakeries, and pleasantly free of tourist crowds.
The hotel is beautifully designed, with tasteful interiors and a particularly beautiful round staircase that adds a touch of elegance. We stayed in two rooms: a single on the 4th floor and a larger double room on the 5th. The single room was perfect—bright, well-sized, and with large windows overlooking Orleansplatz. The double, on the attic floor, was spacious, but due to the small high-up windows, I could only see the sky—which felt a bit closed-in for my slightly claustrophobic nature.
While I usually request quiet courtyard-facing rooms, none were available during our stay. Even on the 5th floor, the street noise at night was quite noticeable. Fortunately, we solved this easily by picking up earplugs at the drugstore right next door to the hotel, which made a big difference for a restful sleep.
The bathroom was excellent—modern, clean, and well-equipped with a walk-in shower, plenty of hot water, and quality toiletry products. Breakfast at the hotel was very good, with a generous and tasty selection. That said, we also enjoyed exploring nearby bakeries, especially Sorry Johnny Café, with its delicious avocado sandwich and breakfast burger.
A special thanks to Katerina at the front desk, who was exceptionally kind and helpful. When I mentioned our plan to visit the Alte Pinakothek, she let us know that admission is only €1 on Sundays—a thoughtful tip, that we used and truly appreciated.
Overall, Moma1890 Boutique Hotel is a stylish, well-located place to stay, with warm service and a local feel. We would be happy to return—next time, perhaps with a quieter room...

Beautiful hotel located right outside Munich East (Ostbanhof) station. One of the exits directly leads to the entrance of the hotel! Excellent connectivity to Airport via S8 (30 mins) and other metro lines/buses. Bustling area with lots of cafes/restaurants too.
As I am travelling by myself, opted for a single room. Was well decorated and was cozy. Lots of lovely little details (writing desk, safe, clean sheets, comfy pillows, little electronic note pad in the room to enquire about various things, good wifi connectivity, bottle of sparkling water and beautiful shower room with shower gels and shampoos from L'Occitane too!)
The staff at reception were very welcoming. They made sure my stay was pleasant. Non alcoholic drinks and snacks were included in the room cost! I have not used this complimentary service. It rained heavily during my stay and they were kind enough to lend umbrella which came helpful during my walking tour of Munich.
On the whole, I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone planning to visit Munich. Will definitely be staying again if I ever...
